Wingnut on Wingnut Crime: Beck vs Bachmann

Wingnut on Wingnut Crime: Beck vs Bachmann July 30, 2013

Uh oh. It appears that Michele Bachmann has lost favor with Glenn Beck because she not only voted against an amendment that would have defunded the NSA, she argued that those concerned about NSA data mining and illegal spying are completely wrong.

The tape began with Bachmann saying, “A false narrative has emerged that the federal government is taking in the content of Americans’ phone calls. It’s not true. It’s not happening.”…

After the audio resumed, the congresswoman said “there is more information contained in the phone book that sits at home on your kitchen counter about each one of us than…in the national security database.” Beck’s co-host Stu Burguiere said, “Love Michele Bachmann, but do we really believe there is more information in the phone book than in the NSA database? Does she really expect us to believe that?”

The camera then panned to Beck, who had written on his chalkboard: “Michele B- is not dead to me, but she is in very ill health.”

And on this one, Beck is right. Bachmann’s argument is utterly moronic.

“Is there a privacy right as to what’s been written on that envelope? No there isn’t. Where there is a privacy right is what’s contained inside that envelope,” she said.

They have the metadata from every cell phone transmission of any kind and they get it every single day. They know every person you called, texted or emailed from your phone. They know every transaction you made online with your phone (and probably with your computer as well, but that’s a separate program). They can track your location at every moment of your day if you had your phone with you. No, this is nothing remotely like just looking at the outside of an envelope.

They can track your location at every moment of your day if you had your phone with you.

In theory, they can also do that if you have a transponder on the car to bypass the lines at toll booths or use express lanes like the recently added lanes on the Washington Beltway between the Dulles Toll Road and I95/395.

If the phone book contains more info than what NSA collects then Bachmann should be in favor of defunding NSA programs. Verizon gives me a phone book every year for free! What does the NSA waste all that funding on when they could just grab some free phone books and be done with it?

  • It would be interesting to know what can be done with the increasing number of RFID equipped cards being carried these days. For example the Saskatoon Transit bus pass I carry is based around one. You press your pass to the card reader on the bus and it instantly takes your fair. We’re also starting to see debit cards use the same kind of RF technology. The action of these units is supposed to be short range, for obvious reasons, but there may be some interesting tricks to be done even with that limitation.

  • This is why I don’t take my cellphone when I go streaking. Also, no pockets.

I gotta go check the temperature in Hell.

    Bachmann’s argument is utterly moronic.

Oh. Beck took the easiest route to being correct about something that exists in this world: disagree with Michele Bachmann about something. That’s cheating!

I can’t believe they didn’t quote something from revelations.

It looks like the Tea Party/GOP is throwing Bachmann under the bus.

She is under investigation for campaign finance violations. No one has stepped up to support her. In fact, the GOP seems to be helping the investigation.

    1. She does make them look bad. Her constant stream of bizarre and factually wrong statements have become amusing noise that no one takes seriously.

    2. More important, she costs them lots of money. She outspent her opponent 10 to 1 in the last election and barely won.

I’ve got mixed feelings about all this. It’s gotten to the point where she is worth more to the Democrats right where she is. And the voters in her district will just elect another right wing extremist who may be less crazy and more effective than she is.
