Jeffress: Christians in America Like Jews Before the Holocaust

Jeffress: Christians in America Like Jews Before the Holocaust June 11, 2015

Again we have a Christian right leader making this staggeringly ridiculous claim that Christians in America today are being treated like the Jews in Nazi Germany before they were rounded up and slaughtered. I don’t know whether to chalk it up to stupidity, demagoguery or having lost all contact with reality.

“This isn’t imaginary. It’s real. And sure, it doesn’t rise to the level of having your head chopped off by ISIS in the Middle East, but it’s all the same attitude that allows for those attacks,” Jeffress said.

“I want to remind people that, you know, the Nazis weren’t able to take the Jews to the crematoriums immediately,” Jeffress said. “The German people wouldn’t have allowed for it. Instead, the Nazis had to change public opinion. They marginalized the Jewish people, disparaged them, and make them objects of contempt.”

Host Sean Hannity asked Jeffress whether Christians “are being marginalized the way Jews in Germany were.”

“Absolutely,” Jeffress said. “They are being marginalized right now. Treated as objects of contempt by the media and once that happens then the taking away of further rights will be very easy.”

Hey, you know who has actually been marginalized, disparaged and treated as objects of contempt in this country? Gay people. People like Jeffress have spent decades, centuries really, dehumanizing gay people as evil, demon-possessed and out to destroy everything good in the world, and when the rest of society says “nope, you’re full of shit and we aren’t going to let you oppress them anymore,” they climb up on their crosses and scream persecution

You know, I try to be thoughtful in my criticisms. I try to be restrained and reasonable and usually I can succeed. But I see and hear shit like this and I’m just done with it. I can’t be bothered to make some sort of nuanced argument. Anyone who believes this is a moronic asshole and they can fuck off forever. I’m done being polite in response to this kind of thing.
