It’s been a while since we’ve checked in with our old friend Eugene Delgaudio of the Loudon County Board of Supervisors in Virginia. As deranged an anti-gay bigot as you will ever see, he is now accusing his opponent of trying to have him killed by referring to an SPLC report that Public Advocate, which he runs, is a hate group.
Herring’s One Commonwealth political action committee on June 22 sent an email that asked supporters to consider contributing to the campaign of Koran T. Saines, who is challenging Delgaudio this year. But the call for funds alone wasn’t what angered the Republican incumbent.
In the email, Herring, a Democrat and former Loudoun supervisor, noted that Delgaudio’s conservative organization, Public Advocate of the United States, has been called an “anti-gay hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
And he said that Delgaudio is interested only in “promoting his extreme right-wing ideology” when local government should be about “working together to solve problems.”
But the supervisor said that mentioning the Southern Poverty Law Center brings up the notion of a man he claims acted on the “hate group” label and attempted to endanger his life. Floyd Lee Corkins II of Herndon was sentenced in 2013 to 25 years in prison for shooting a security guard at the Washington, DC, headquarters of the conservative Family Research Council. The FBI told Delgaudio that Corkins appeared to be targeting Public Advocate, as well, and Corkins was seen near Public Advocate’s office in Falls Church and at a Chick-fil-A in Sterling, Delgaudio said.
So referring to the Southern Poverty Law Center was an irresponsible action by a sitting attorney general and someone who is believed to want to run for governor, Delgaudio said.
“Mr. Herring wants my demise,” he said.
Gay people are violently attacked every day. What do you suppose Delgaudio would say if you accused him of wanting to have them killed with all of his daily ravings about gay people as demon-possessed pedophiles out to destroy the country? We have one single example of an anti-gay group being attacked by a violent criminal but thousands and thousands of examples of violent attacks on gay people. One is clearly more serious than the other.
