Donald Trump has announced that he is boycotting Fox News because he believes he’s been treated badly by them (for a guy who declares himself to be so tough, his skin is as thin as an onion). Despite getting fawning coverage from some Fox hosts (Sean Hannity), he doesn’t like that some others have dared to ask him tough questions and some guests have criticized him. Naturally, Roger Ailes is going to meet with him to work things out.
Fox News Chairman & CEO Roger Ailes and Donald Trump spoke this morning and plan to have a meeting next week to discuss their differences of opinion regarding Fox’s coverage of Mr. Trump’s presidential campaign. Ailes will be joined by senior Fox editorial executives. Mr. Trump believes he has been treated unfairly in certain instances. FOX News has held every candidate in this race to the highest journalistic standards throughout our coverage. We believe a candid meeting about our differences is required and that any misunderstandings can be handled without compromising those standards.
Can you even imagine what Fox News would be saying if CNN or MSNBC held such a meeting with Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders — or worse yet, Obama when he was a candidate? This would be irrefutable proof that the liberal media was working hand in hand with Democratic candidates to ensure that they win the election. They’d be ranting about the “government-controlled media” and declaring themselves the only truly objective news outlet in existence.
But guess what? There’s never been such a meeting, so far as I remember, by any news network in any election ever. Because it’s a travesty of journalistic ethics. If a candidate is getting upset because your network is sometimes criticizing him, there’s a really good chance that this means you’re doing your job. Ailes has wavered to and fro, alternating between defending his hosts (at least Megyn Kelly, their rising star) and kissing Trump’s ass. This is appalling, even for Fox.
