Hemant made a video encouraging all atheists to be organ donors, which I couldn’t agree with more. I think everyone should be an organ donor, regardless of religion, but some religions think that your body goes with you to the afterlife so they think they can’t allow the removal of an organ.
20 years ago, my mother received a lung transplant. The organ came from a woman who died in a tragic car accident, but because she was an organ donor four lives were saved that day — two lung transplant recipients, one heart and one liver. We actually got to meet the family of the victim of that crash, which was an overwhelming experience. How do you say thank you and I’m so sorry at the same time?
When you did, your body is no longer useful. But it can be, if you are an organ donor. Your death can save lives. Please make sure you’re on the organ donor list in your state.
