The football games at McKenzie High School in Alabama are announced by a guy is also the pastor of a local Baptist church. He’s also a pseudo-patriot with violent fantasies as he told the crowd on Friday night that if they didn’t stand for the National Anthem should be shot by the military.
The announcer of the Friday night football game at McKenzie High School in Alabama’s Butler County had something to say to those who may choose not to stand for the national anthem.
“If you don’t want to stand for the national anthem, you can line up over there by the fence and let our military personnel take a few shots at you since they’re taking shots for you,” the announcer said at the game versus Houston County High School, according to Facebook poster Denise Crowley-Whitfield.Crowley-Whitfield said the crowd went “crazy cheering” following the speech.
The announcer was identified as Pastor Allen Joyner, of Sweet Home Baptist Church in McKenzie, according to Joyner’s relatives and friends, who also posted to Facebook and praised the statement.
Of course they went crazy, because they share Pastor Joyner’s fascist hyper-nationalism. He believes that our military protects our rights and then says they should kill those who exercise them in ways he disapproves of. I’d bet a lot of money that he supports Trump, one of the many right-wing authoritarian assholes in that basket of deplorables.
Now the interesting question is whether the school will do anything about it. He should be fired. He should already have been fired. But remember, the crowd roared their approval. So will the school board have the courage to fire him in the face of their entire constituency full of fascists like him? I doubt it.
