Trump is still firing blindly in every direction at Robert Mueller, his only goal being to sow doubt in the minds of his followers and Republicans in Congress to stave off possible impeachment. On Sunday, he alleged that he and Robert Mueller had a “very nasty & contentious business relationship” that proves Mueller has a conflict of interest. He didn’t say what that relationship was and Rudy Giuliani played a childish game with it on TV on Monday.
Pressed during a television interview Monday about what Trump meant, Giuliani said the dispute remains unresolved “even to this day” and was serious enough that it would have kept him from taking a position investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election.
But Giuliani declined to detail the alleged conflict, calling on Mueller to “stand up and be a man” and disclose it.“He has the conflict, not the president,” Giuliani told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota. “I have a good idea what it is. It’s one that would have kept me out of the investigation.”
Oh yes, because you’re just such a paragon of virtue. What they’re referring to here is almost certainly just a routine golf club membership. They floated that one a year ago, alleging that Trump and Mueller had a dispute over membership dues at a Virginia golf club Trump owns and Mueller ended up resigning his membership. They tried then to make that into some big conflict of interest, which it simply isn’t. This is not a legal argument, it’s a purely political one.
Funny, isn’t it, that he’s still furious that Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the investigation because he was part of the campaign being investigated and was thus a potential (and now actual) witness, but he thinks Mueller should recuse himself because he once resigned from a Trump golf course because the fees were too high. As always with Trump, consistency, truth and rationality mean nothing, the only thing that matters is what suits his immediate needs. But it’s all nonsense.
