Sen. Susan Collins of Maine is once again revealing her tenuous connection to reality by saying that she doesn’t believe that Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh would vote to overturn Roe v Wade. If she really believes that, she may be the most gullible person on the planet.
Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) has once again indicated that she trusts Brett Kavanaugh would uphold abortion rights if confirmed to the Supreme Court, despite what the conservative judge has said to the contrary.
“First of all, I do not believe he’s going to repeal Roe v. Wade,” Collins said in an interview released Monday for Showtime’s “The Circus.”…Even if Kavanaugh didn’t vote to overturn Roe, the Supreme Court could have many opportunities in the coming years to gut abortion access by allowing states to regulate it out of existence, as Texas tried to do with a pair of laws in 2013 that shut down half the abortion clinics in the state.
Kavanaugh, and anyone else Trump might appoint if his nomination blows up, will vote to effectively end a woman’s right to choose, whether they do so explicitly, by bluntly overturning Roe and Casey, or implicitly, by upholding all of the regulations found in the more than 100 TRAP laws that have been passed since 2010, many of which are currently working their way up the courts. Either way, the reality of reproductive rights for most women — not rich women, of course, or the mistresses of Senators and Supreme Court justices — will be history. Anyone who believes otherwise is living in fantasyland.
