Kelly, Bolton Get Into a Shouting Match Over Immigration October 19, 2018

Bloomberg News is reporting that White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and National Security Adviser John Bolton got into a big shouting match that led to Kelly storming away muttering obscenities. The fight was apparently over immigration, the caravan from Honduras moving north through Mexico and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen’s handling of it.

President Donald Trump’s chief of staff and his national security adviser engaged in a heated argument outside the Oval Office on Thursday, according to three people familiar with the episode.

The chief of staff, John Kelly, and the national security adviser, John Bolton, fought over immigration and border crossings, including the performance of the Homeland Security Department under Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, one person familiar with the matter said. She was at the White House for meetings on Thursday, but the people disagreed about whether she witnessed the argument.

Bolton criticized DHS, and Kelly defended Nielsen, a former deputy whom he supported to replace him at the department. Two people described the exchange as less a shouting match than an intense argument. Kelly then stormed away, so upset that he uttered some profanities…

Trump has lately expressed fury about a large group of migrants who are traveling from Honduras toward the U.S. border. He vowed Thursday to deploy the military and shut down the Mexican border unless the migrants are turned back.

Trump’s obsession with this caravan of refugees heading toward the southern border is just so banal and racist. He and his sycophants portray them as this invading horde that is “storming the border.” Some even claim that they’re coming to “swing the election,” for fuck’s sake (hey, you ignoramus — they won’t be able to vote). And at least one is claiming that they’re funded by Soros (of course — he funds everything they don’t like and theres never any need for evidence to support such a claim). The truth is that it’s 4000 desperate people fleeing a horrible situation. We used to brag about how America was this great welcoming place where people could come to make a better life for their families and find peace and freedom and opportunity. Now we scream at them, lie about them, arrest them, take their children away from them (and maybe then lose them so they never get them back), beat them up and berate them. If there is a hell, Trump can’t go there fast enough.
