In yet another public show of his thin-skinned fascist impulses, Donald Trump has banned CNN’s Jim Acosta from covering the White House after throwing a tantrum at him during a press conference. And the excuse they’re using for it is both flatly contradicted by the video and astonishingly hypocritical.
Of course it’s a lie. Virtually everything Sanders and Trump says is a lie and they’re so brazen about it that they don’t care that there is video proving them lying. And when you read “President Trump believes in a free press and expects and welcomes tough questions of him and his Administration,” you should see “I’m not racist, but…” He emphatically does not believe in a free press, he has made that abundantly clear. And if he actually welcomed tough questions, he wouldn’t go on Fox News constantly and ignore those who would ask him such questions. As with everything else involving Trump, this is a blatant lie.
On Wednesday night, Sanders accused Acosta of “placing his hands on a young woman” and said it was on those grounds that Acosta’s press pass was being suspended “until further notice.”
“President Trump believes in a free press and expects and welcomes tough questions of him and his Administration,” Sanders said in a statement. “We will, however, never tolerate a reporter placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern. This conduct is absolutely unacceptable. It is also completely disrespectful to the reporter’s colleagues not to allow them an opportunity to ask a question.”
Video of the exchange showed otherwise. On Twitter, Acosta responded to Sanders’s statement with, simply: “This is a lie.”
Every single member of the press corps should ask this question at every press availability until this is reversed: “You say that Jim Acosta was banned because you will not tolerate him putting his hands on a young woman, yet President Trump bragged on tape about grabbing young women by the pussy and has a long record of using his position to peak at young women while they’re dressing for beauty pageants. Do you really expect anyone to believe this phony outrage?” Every single question from every single reporter. And then let them try to ban the entire White House press corps. Give them the rope to hang themselves.
