Trump is in Paris, where he was scheduled to honor American soldiers who died during one of major battles of World War I at an American military cemetery, as other world leaders did the same for their own soldiers. But it was raining out, so the snowflake bailed on it and sent underlings instead.
President Trump flew 3,800 miles to this French capital city for ceremonies to honor the military sacrifice in World War I, hoping to take part in the kind of powerful ode to the bravery of the armed forces that he was unable to hold in Washington.
But on his first full day here, it rained on his substitute parade weekend.
Early Saturday, the White House announced Trump and the first lady had scuttled plans, due to bad weather, for their first stop in the weekend’s remembrance activities — a visit to the solemn Aisne Marne American Cemetery, marking the ferocious Battle of Belleau Wood.
It was not completely clear why the Trumps were unable to attend. The cemetery is 50 miles from Paris. Perhaps the president was planning to travel on Marine One, which is occasionally grounded by the Secret Service.
Then you drive. It’s less than an hour away. All the other world leaders made it to their own ceremonies in the rain. He sent his Chief of Staff, Gen. John Kelly, and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to the ceremony. They didn’t seem to min a little rain and somehow managed to get there. And he doesn’t seem to have any problem golfing in the rain, but honoring our soldiers is just too much of an imposition.
It would be undeniable proof that Obama was an anti-American Kenyan Muslim Marxist terrorist under the control of George Soros. It would be all they talked about for weeks. Remember, these are the same people who lost their minds when he put dijon mustard on a hamburger, for crying out loud. The Christian right crackpots would use it as proof that he’s possessed by demons and in the employ of Satan himself.
Hell, imagine what Trump himself would have said. He would have immediately tweeted out that Obama was a “low-energy loser” (one of his favorite phrases) and railed against his lack of patriotism. But it’s Trump, so it’s all okay. It’s totally different when their guy does it, for special, lucky, magical reasons that you can only discern through hours of prayer and the use of a Commie Detector Decoder Ring (free with your purchase of one of Jim Bakker’s buckets of survival slop — for a limited time only, get em while they’re hot, some restrictions may apply).
And let me ask a rather obvious question: If a football player kneeling during the National Anthem is an outrageous insult to our military, why isn’t it an insult for the freaking president to be so fragile that he can’t drive an hour to stand in a little rain to honor the vast numbers of soldiers who died in World War I on the 100th anniversary of one of the worst and bloodiest conflicts the world has ever seen? How is the first an insult to the troops and the second one not?
