John Guandolo, the disgraced former FBI agent fired for having sex with a woman he was supposed to be protecting and has now turned himself into an incredibly extreme Islamophobe, says that the United States should bomb Mecca, Islam’s holiest place, to retaliate for a former Saudi citizen shooting up a military base in Pensacola, Florida.
“Even an attack on a U.S. military base isn’t enough to smack any of our leaders on the side of the head like a two-by-four to wake them the heck up,” Guandolo said. “The federal government is completely and utterly incapable of fixing this. They’re incompetent.”
“[Even after] an organized attack where people are filming a Saudi Air Force officer killing Americans on a naval air station and we’re like, ‘Hey, the Saudi president, the Saudi king said he is really sorry, deeply disturbed,’” Guandolo added. “How about a cruise missile right down Mecca, right on the Kaaba? Maybe that would send them a message that we’re done playing in this war.”
I’m usually very tough on Saudi Arabia, but we need to have evidence that the Saudi government had something to do with the shooting. And that seems unlikely given that the shooter has been in the United States for a long time, is a permanent resident (possibly a citizen, not sure), and passed the screening to join the military. Absent such evidence, it would be wrong to punish his country of origin. And bombing Mecca is a terrible idea. It would unite the entire Arab world against us and likely prompt World War III. Terrible idea.
