Dont Cling to Understanding

Dont Cling to Understanding

I have really liked the characterisation of the Spiritual journey as the pole vaulter’s run… he takes the pole and digs it in and then goes up and at a certain time leaves the pole to go over the bar. Pole being the knowledge on the spiritual journey. This quote "The Pocket Zen Reader," edited by Thomas Cleary brings out the same thing in a nice way.

Don’t cling to your own understanding. Even if you do understand something, you should ask yourself if there might be something you have not fully resolved, or if there may be some higher meaning yet.
