PMSBuddy – tracking for that time of the month January 31, 2009

Keeping track of things is one of the great uses internet has been put to. And people keep coming up with more and more interesting stuff all the time. Here is one application that I could not have thought about. It is one of the most innovative ways to “stay out of trouble”. 🙂 PMSBuddy helps you to track the “monthly cycle” of the women in your lives so you can understand why someone is irritable for no apparent reason whatsoever.

According to American Academy of Family Physicians, three main symptoms during the menstruation period are irritability, tension, and dysphoria (unhappiness). Here is a list of things that can occur with women:[3]

Behavioral symptoms: fatigue, insomnia, dizziness, changes in sexual interest, food cravings or overeating

Psychologic symptoms: irritability, anger, depressed mood, crying and tearfulness, anxiety, tension, mood swings, lack of concentration, confusion, forgetfulness, restlessness, loneliness, decreased self-esteem, tension

Physical symptoms: headaches, breast tenderness and swelling, back pain, abdominal pain and bloating, weight gain, swelling of extremities, water retention, nausea, muscle and joint pain

About 3-8% of the menstruating women have a more severe form of PMS called Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD). [2] These are the main symptoms of PMDD:

* feelings of sadness or despair, or possibly suicidal thoughts
* feelings of tension or anxiety
* panic attacks
* mood swings, crying
* lasting irritability or anger that affects other people
* disinterest in daily activities and relationships
* trouble thinking or focusing
* tiredness or low energy
* food cravings or binge eating
* having trouble sleeping
* feeling out of control
* physical symptoms, such as bloating, breast tenderness, headaches, and joint or muscle pain
