On the other hand, Saudi Arabia’s footprint in... Read more

Aarti Betigeri on why all the global celebs – like Salman Rushdie and Oprah Winfrey – were centerpiece in a Literary Fest in Jaipur?  Finally, a literary congregation which has made writing and reading “sexy” and “global”. Oprah Winfrey went to the Jaipur Literary Fest and had something interesting to share about her experience in India.  As interesting as it is, I wish India wasn’t addressed as if it was some kind of an exotic bird or an animal.  Whenever someone from outside of India – specially West – comes over, s/he finds there is an energy, that is missing in other places and so comes out with interesting comments – either out of political correctness (if... Read more

“Cracked the case” is fine.  But what about the justice?  If we look back to last 20 years, which terrorist has been brought to justice until now?  Not one!  And why?  Those who should get the Death Penalty also are being kept on with the justice done because of a skewed sense of appeasement. Claiming to have cracked the serial blasts that rocked Zaveri Bazar, Opera House and Dadar in south and central Mumbai, Rakesh Maria said the arrests have... Read more

Salman Rushdie didn’t come to Jaipur Literary festival. But four authors read from Rushdie’s “Satanic Verses” at the festival. This has created a big hue and cry now. Such is the terrorism of the Islamic community within India and the fear among all people, that the organizers seem to have capitulated to the pressure. The Salman Rushdie row refused to die down on Sunday with a police complaint being filed against the four authors who read out portions from the... Read more

A Taliban commander comes on and after saying he is going to shoot his captives as a revenge for his people having been killed by the Government. Then he shouts “Allah-o-Akbar” (Allah is Great) and shoots 15 military personnel down. The situation wouldn’t be anything strange given the reputation of Taliban but for the details of the captives. The Captives were 15 soldiers of Frontier Constabulary of Pakistan Armed Forces. The killers were members of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan – basically Pakistani... Read more
