Yesterday was the penultimate day and there were further Q&As through which Sadguru helped everyone understand the Law of Karma and most basic way of coming out of it. Now, over the years I have come to exactly the same conclusions that Sadguru presented through my own introspection and found that echo from very few sources. Most of the Gurus and Saints deal with Karma in a very frivolous and superficial manner. Most have no idea of what they are talking about anyways. Karma and Law of Karma is at the root of our existence. Unlike a lot of traditions which confuse Enlightenment with complete loss of Karma or Living as a quality with only the subtler or primordial part of existence; there is a fundamental series of action as a cause to an effect which leads to reaction (for many lifes). The breaking of this series is being free of the Karma. On drishtikone, we have talked about it many times before. Read more

Yesterday, was our initiation into the Isha system of Guru Shishya parampara. I have not been a believer of this way to enlightenment but yesterday I saw the power that came to me. It was amazing. The energy one felt through the process was great and worth it. Interestingly, I had decided NOT to ever go to a Guru and go alone myself. Unless of course the Guru would come to me and want to guide me through the paces himself. Here I was going to attend simply a course of yoga... and before I knew it.. I was "initiated". Now, Initiation is a BIG responsibility for the Guru and the Shishya as well. Guru has planted a "seed" in you, which He feels will become a "tree". Shishya, in turn gives his agreement that he will nurture it to its growth as a tree. I did not think I will go asking for the "seed" from a Guru, but now that I have been blessed with and offered one I will surely go ahead and take care of it. Now, my urge to go higher and further has increased even further. This "system" has been propagated through ages - not by written word or instructions ... but actual passing on the secrets of spiritual enlightenment from One Guru to his Shishya.. who was worthy of carrying it through. It has been unbroken through ages - thousands of years. I wouldn't have believed this if I had not heard Sadguru Jaggi in completeness and also experienced what I did yesterday. Sadguru Jaggi's philosophical and spiritual underpining is not just taking one part of the Vedic/Vedantic tradition and just using it.. rather it uses the complete knowledge and understanding. Whether it is Yoga or Ayurveda or the knowledge of energy centers and Energy itself.. or the science of Mantras/Yantras/Tantra or the understanding of deities and why the Hindu thought went that route. Even the understanding and acknowledgment of greatness of past Masters like Lao Tse, Jesus, and Buddha and bringing their learning. Or even the philosophy of Krishna himself. The scope of the entire spiritual underpining is very vast and it all comes together very beautifully. Read more

Look at this picture. Its credits read: "A displaced Pakistani man plays with his baby in Chota Lahore camp at Swabi district, some 150 km northwest of Islamabad on May 21. AFP / Getty Images / Pedro Ugarte". For last two days, at Isha Yoga we have been discussing the important "Truth" of how the present "Moment" (comprising of microsecond or whatever) is inevitable. And this will never come again. And since what is going on is inevitable in that moment.. just in that moment.. not the next... for that next moment is open and had millions of possibilities. But what do we do? We spend our time in past or the future. We miss that we ARE in the present and that cannot be changed. We can work to change the next moment.. but the present has to be accepted. When you accept the present moment, then it follows that despite pain.. suffering would not be there. This picture below very aptly illustrates that point. Here is a family uprooted from their house and in terrible situation. But look at the child! The kid finds the side of the tent as enjoyable as a swing. The joy of the child lives in her present. She does not know the past or the future.. or at least doesn't seem to care. For her, her present moment carries the eternity which she is enjoying fully and completely! Read more

As I said earlier that I had started the "Inner Engineering" course after arguing with myself for 4 years on this action. I think now I was ready. As I am doing the course, I am realizing that for all the "unconventional streak" to Sadguru Jaggi's demeanour and behavior he follows the traditions of the Rishis of the Vedic times pretty seriously. I am just getting a glimpse at this moment of his spirit and soul.. but that is what it reveals to me. From what I have heard of him - I have a friend who was his neighbor when Sadguru was growing up in Tamil Nadu and who told me how he was so passionate about spirituality - it seems very clearly that he may have learnt/earned a lot of what he "gives" out on his own. Surely, he may have his Guru, but a lot has been learnt in this one life (when he was ready). That gave me a strange thought this morning. The Vedanta/Vedic way of life and the articulation of "Truth" can never die. Read more

How are Muslims perceived and treated in the US? An interesting experiment and discussion by ABC news. Not that it would decide how Americans or even other cultures behave with Muslims, but I would be curious if someone in say, Saudi Arabia or even Pakistan ever gives thought or does any research on the blatant discrimination prevalent in those cultures? I am not sure where the lady who helped in this experiment was originally (her parents' country/culture) was from and if she ever had an iota of thought of the minorities living and facing worse discrimination in those cultures? I don't think people should be discriminated, but I can understand when people know how the other side would react if they were in the same situation in the other's culture, that they loose the fairness in their own character. It is always news-worthy and interesting to slam US and Americans on discrimination, but the fact is that after having travelled in roughly 4 continents in the world, I haven't found a more fair place, except for Canada. Yes, its not perfect, but in the comity of nations that we live in, try doing what you do in another country. And I don't mean Nahaya goes to a Muslim country and does what she does in the US... but she takes her liberal American friend and has her do all she does in the US .. in that country! And STAND by her .. fight for her rights! Would she? That's the question. So, in a way, America is in competition with itself in this game of fairness and discrimination... for the rest of the nations don't even show up!! 🙂 Read more

Today I started the "Inner Engineering" course from IshaYoga in Houston. I still remember that it was 4 years back that one of my friends a Mallu Christian (and a professed Rush Limbaugh fan and hard-core Republican) had pushed me to do this after he had (which changed his life completely). I believe he went onto to do advanced level courses as well and he actually got to interact with Sadguru Jaggi (the Harley Davidson riding Guru) himself. My sister also did the course.. again with Sadguru's class and actually had an "out-of-body" experience. I have resisted because I have not been much of a "Guru" person. Having said that, I have been reading on Sadguru for last 4 years and found him to be spot on in most of what he says. Kavita, my friend, carries his interviews regularly on her web site KavitaChhibber.com. This course, has come my way at a time when I really was in need of connecting back to myself .. deep inside. Today was the first day and it looked very promising. I am sure the coming days will be very exciting as well. Tomorrow is another day and I am looking forward to more. Will give a review of the experience after I am done. Read more

The present is the eternal. Through time, the timeless is not experienced. 'The now' is ever existent; even if you escape into future,'the now' is ever present. The present is the doorway to the past. If you do not understand the present now, will you understand it in the future? Read more

Bibi joh boltee hai woh sunno (listen to whatever your wife says), as otherwise it could land you in trouble. Because if you do not listen to her, you will suffer the consequences. If your wife asks you to put your face that side, put it that side. If she says, put it this side, then put it this side. Otherwise you will face trouble. Hum sub bhogi hai (we are all sufferers). A typical discourse from your neighborhood Agony Aunt.. right? WRONG! Well.. this is the advise from India's Apex Court .. the Indian Supreme Court. An Air Force official Deepak Kumar recently filed a suit against his estranged wife Manisha, who Kumar said had ruined him and his family and also implicated all of them in various cases including that of sodomy. Read more
