This is a guest article from Tony Jeary, the author of Strategic Acceleration: Succeed at the Speed of Life. I think it is very interesting and informative. Hope you can benefit from it as well. I am reading his book and will review it soon. ********* ********** Anyone interested in getting better results, becoming more productive and ultimately more successful should probably take an honest look at the problem of procrastination. Most people think procrastination is just an issue that involves putting things off that can be done later without much of a penalty. That idea just scratches the surface of the procrastination issue and is indicative of the denial people have about it. Truthfully, procrastination is like an addiction because it is the symptom of a thinking problem and like any other addiction, its difficult to break! The reality is this: Nothing marginalizes results more than procrastination because being productive and getting superior results is about completing tasks and projects in reduced time frames. Obviously, if you can get more work done in less time, you will see results much faster. We are all guilty of procrastination to some extent, and there are two kinds: 1. Positive Procrastination. This is when you legitimately need some "mental percolation" time to gather your thoughts and get clear on what you need to do. 2. Negative Procrastination. This is based on some pretty flimsy excuses to avoid doing something, which will ultimately affect your results in negative ways. Read more

I had started this series which looked at ways to obviate the negative effects of losing the Health Insurance at an old age due to job loss or other reasons. Not all the alternatives we discuss will be applicable to all, but I am hoping that some of the alternatives may be a fit for someone's needs. It is obviously based on individual needs and requirements. Here is the next in the series: Medical Tourism. In recent years it has become big. What is it? Medical Tourism is the practice of "practice of traveling across international borders to obtain health care." Typically such health care needs catered to from abroad include the elective procedures like joint replacement (knee/hip), cardiac surgery, dental surgery, and cosmetic surgeries. However, one could access a host of other health care from Psychiatry to Alternative treatment to even Burial services. Some of the popular destinations for Medical Tourism are: Read more

We often talk of just the war or the unpleasant part of Indo-Pak conflict. Here is the effect on areas we probably do not think about - the music industry of Pakistan. How does the conflict affect the music industry there? Here is some discussion by Shallum Xavier - a rock guitarist from Pakistan. Not just Shallum but even the ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali was looking forward to coming to Pakistan for concerts and it all got stalled recently. But why arent such people speaking out against a system that is run by the terror minds behind the fascade of the democratic modern faces? Read more

Muzzammil "Mo" Hassan came to the police station to tell them that his wife had died at their home. When they went there they saw that her body was in the hallway and her head was lying near by. She had been beheaded! Mo Hassan runs Bridges TV with the aim of "bridge cultural divide between the West and the Muslims". Described as a gentle guy - traditional yet not very religious. For example, he wouldn't let women in his office if his wife was not there or had blocked a story on the first Muslim woman to win the title of Miss England in 2005. While some suggest that it was his traditionality that made him copy the method of killing that is popular among the Islamists back home in Pakistan because of Honor Killing; others suggest that he resorted to this action because of a domestic dispute gone bad! Read more

Today, I saw a news item - that Pakistan has owed India Rs 300 crores since 1948. Why? After Partition, it was agreed that India would initially meet all the liabilities of the united entity and that Pakistan would then pay back its share of the debt to be mutually agreed. The sum finally agreed upon was Rs 300 crore. The rate of interest was fixed at 3 per cent and Pakistan was to pay back the amount in 50 annually equated instalments starting from 1952. Now, that Rs. 300 crores was in 1948. And the interest rate fixed at that time was a meagre 3%. If we take that as the basis, then today Pakistan owes India USD 400 million. And if we go by what could be a reasonable interest rate - 10%, then the figures just go out of the roof - USD 22 billion! Read more

Sania Mirza is a celebrity. She has accomplished a lot if you look at it from the standpoint of a girl from India trying to make a mark in the tennis world. But from the global standards, she is still far behind. In any case, here are her pictures from the WTA Dubai Championship. Read more

I saw this daffodil story at Holistic Quantum Relativity (HQR) group - thought I will share with all. The author is unknown. After reading this I realized that Drishtikone is my Daffodil garden. 🙂 ************ Several times my daughter had telephoned to say, "Mother, you must come to see the daffodils before they are over." I wanted to go, but it was a two-hour drive from Laguna to Lake Arrowhead "I will come next Tuesday", I promised a little reluctantly on her third call. Next Tuesday dawned cold and rainy. Still, I had promised, and reluctantly I drove there. When I finally walked into my daughter Carolyn's house I was welcomed by the joyful sounds of happy children. I delightedly hugged and greeted my grandchildren. Read more

Psychoanalysis is primarily a method of psychotherapy developed by Sigmund Freud. According to psychoanalytic theory, anxiety is due to the presence in us all of certain threatening sexual or aggressive urges, wishes or motives springing from the id. These urges come into conflict with the realistic barriers imposed by the ego and the taboos of society incorporated in the superego. We repress the urges and conflicts – hide them from conscious awareness in the unconscious mind. We cannot consciously think about or verbalize a repressed desire. But the urge is still there in the unconscious mind, driving for expression though always in conflict with the ego and super-ego. We are afraid to express the id impulses. This fear is called anxiety. Various normal and abnormal defense mechanism develop in us to reduce anxiety. Abnormal neurotic behaviours occur when the defenses distort reality to such a degree that an individual's ability to function is impaired. Read more

We have been discussing the deal by Pakistan with Taliban. Here is an interesting video interview with Hamid Gul and his clear sympathies and indeed, patronization of Taliban. It is people like him who have planned and created this monster and probably want it for Pakistan itself. And one wants to look outside? Read more
