Good Obama day! Today I had to combine fact with fiction in this post. I expect much more fact than fiction. In my head I still am able to listen , revived memories, like being a pleasant melody played by the harmonious voice of a wise Guru, in a past life in beautiful India. I can't recall his name, but I do remember some of his teachings, so what follows are his concept about the ratio, we human beings should have regarding our time spent on physical matters and spiritual ways observed during each of our life times.According to him the ideal time spent by humankind was; eighty five percent on our physical needs and obligations and only fifteen percent in our spiritual endeavors. Death to Death and Immortality

There are many stories and tales in the Hindu scriptures that if taken literally could be very silly, but if one were to ruminate on them, they suddenly sound very profound! Like this one, which really intrigued me! Long time ago a couple, Rishi Mrikandu and his wife Marudmati worshipped Lord Shiva (the Destroyer), so they could get a son. Lord Shiva appeared and gave a choice - Gifted kid with short life OR Dull kid with Long life? They selected the former. And Markandeya was born. He was destined to die at 16 although an exemplary kid. [1] As the day of death came, he was in the Shiva temple praying to the almighty. Yama, the lord of Death came to take him away as he was busy in his prayers. Seeing this Shiva appeared and apparently angered over Yama taking his devotee while he was in prayer, fought with Yama. And defeated him to the point of death! So, Shiva gave Death to Death himself - thus earning the name Kaalakalaya - the one who brought Death to Death! The boy, Markandeya is supposed to have lived on forever then. When he had lived for billions of years, the sun flickered and extinguished as did the earth. Markandeya floated in space for years, until the Universe started anew and the sun and earth were again created and he could walk on earth again. He is supposed to have experienced the extinguishing of one Universe and the birth of another one.... but more importantly, has been a witness to the void in between. Read more

Patni may gain Satyam Clients and WIPRO slows hiring

Satyam is going down despite the Indian Government's best attempts. Already at least two clients may be tapping Patni to make the change over. All State and GE, where Patni is also big have given feelers to Patni to help augment the team. All State, apparently, has terminated its contract with Satyam this week and has started passing on more work to Patni.[1] Patni is using both "lift and shift" (move the work bundled together quickly to new operator) and "re-badging" (where the Satyam employees maybe taken on into Patni en-masse) approaches to handle the work coming over from Satyam at All State and other clients. Obama's Innaugural Speech censored in China

So, while the rest of the world was moved and excited about Obama's innauguration and his speech, the Chinese media was looking for "Communist bloopers" from him. And as is their wont, any references to Communism and Silencing dissent were omitted. Japs have new English instructors – US Presidents!

The Japanese want to learn English and they seem to have hit upon a great tool - Speeches by US Presidents and Presidential candidates. Hopefully they haven't been learning from George Bush and some others before him! [1] Well, the compilation of speeches by Barack Obama has sold more than 400,000 copies as the Japs find in his speeches simple but powerful vocabulary... and "Moving" that even the ordinary Japs can memorize!! Good Alternatives to MS OneNote

Yesterday I had discussed the use of MS OneNote here and how useful it is. EverNote is an alternative but not quite there. Today I found two good alternatives that somehow are quite like OneNote. Action Outline First one is ActionOutline. It comes in 3 versions - Free (lite), Standard ($39.95), and Pro ($79.95). Pro can be used to share docs in a network while Standard is stand alone. Instead of the file/folder format of MS OneNote, ActionOutline (and TheGuide as well) use the tree format - which is also useful. Read more

Obama's innauguration and the coming storm

Today, Barack Obama took his oath as the 44th US President. A new chapter was started in the US and the world. I caught some of the oath taking and the full speech. Obama and Michelle then walked Bushes to their copter - the first time this had happened. I wanted to write about it, but I was more busy in doing a make-over of my own blog. I was told by some very trusted readers that my blog needed to be more simple and easier on the eye. So that is what I did. Hopefully you will like the new look. There is a contact link up at the top menu, please use it to let me know. Meanwhile, White House also has a Blog! In keeping with his penchant for using technology, Barack Obama has started the office with a spanking new blog to share thoughts with the people. It is quite in keeping with his pledge of being one of people. I have seen Obama's speeches that he has given on his train ride to Washington DC from Philly via Delaware and Maryland (reminiscent of Lincoln's ride from Illinois to DC). He seems to be getting people ready for what seems like a terrible storm! Sometimes I feel that he is communicating to people what most people already know, buut somehow it seems that he (and others in the Government) seem to know that the storm is even more terrible than it seems or most have imagined!
