A very useful mystical principle has been spoiled through times. It is like the saying: "Let's keep our fingers crossed" when we desire to see some positive results of our honest efforts and not as a magical formula that without doing enough efforts something miracle would happen. The same applies to the positive use of wearing a witch's hat, or the comic scene applied to a student when he is wearing the DUNCE hat sitting alone in a corner. Originally it was used to those students who were already very smart, but due to their lack of concentration couldn't retain important instruction. These teachers were using the pyramid principle. The inverted cone on one's head was with the purpose of remembering very complicated instructions, or something difficult for us to retain. The data revealed that overweight women were more likely to report having sexual intercourse with a man, even when she controlled for age, race and type of residence. Pashmina: Another frontier of Indo-Pak fight on Kashmir

There is a strange battle brewing up between India and Pakistan. The wool comes not from Sheep but from a Goat. That goat is local to Srinagar Valley although they have been taken and bred in various other locations to meet the demand of the craze of Cashmere (Pashmina) shawls and clothing. There is a concept of Geographical Indication (GI) tag - where a product gets its name from the local area it comes from like - Darjeeling tea, Alphonso mango, Assam orthodox tea and Muga silk. The Pashmina comes from Kashmir and has been popular around the West as "Cashmere". So, it also comes under the same copyright area. Importance of Diwali – II

After I wrote the post on Diwali, a reader and I had a chat.. and she repeated the oft said characterization of Ravan. That he was just like Ram... so why was he considered inferior. And why is his killing considered victory of Good over Evil. Like I said in my post, I do NOT consider Diwali to be victory of Good over Evil.. but a moment when one moves from Darkness to Light. Light in this case is the light of Truth.. out of illusion. Ram represents Detachment. And Ravan represents Desire. Everything that Ravan was characterised as - Gold plated mansions, Expensive palaces, picked up someone's wife etc. - represent desire or materialism. Ram on the other hand represented every type of detachment - no desire for kingdom, willing to live in minimal conditions, fighting someone else's fight, friendly with not so fortunate creatures, eating berries. It is NOT important whether it is just a story or such events actually happened. For the believers its all real. For me it provides some very profound lessons of moving from darkness of illusion to light. It is not about judgment whether desire is good or bad... but the realization that desires bind and detachment liberates. You cannot begin your journey by saying "I will be detached", then you never are. You have to start as a witness.. as an observer to your ownself as well as the world. Detachment is a consequence. Reason: A vote is not a policy statement but a decision on who will be the choice for the political office. There are other avenues for such policy statements.
