Partition was foolishness of gigantic proportions. It was an act of deception by Jinnah and the British and naivette as well as ego of Congress leaders. Here is an excerpt from Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad's book "India Wins Freedom". Kalam was one of the foremost leaders of the Congress party and a staunch opposer of the partition. He writes about the Muslims from UP and Bihar who belonged to Muslim League and supported partition - without much understanding though.. but as staunchly as those who went there! " The situation was one in which tragedy and comedy were inextricably mixed. After partition, the most ridiculous position was that of the Moslem League leaders who remained in India. Jinnah left for Karachi with a message to his followers that now that the country was divided they should be loyal citizens of India. This parting message created in them a strange sense of weakness and disillusion. Many of these leaders came to see me after 14 August. Their plight was pathetic. Every one of them said with deep regret and anger that Jinnah had deceived them and left them in the lurch. I could not at first understand what they meant by saying that Jinnah had deceived them. He had openly demanded partition of the country on the basis of Moslem majority provinces. Partition was now a reality and both in the west and in the east Moslem majority areas formed parts of Pakistan. Why then should these spokesmen of the Moslem League say that they had been deceived?. Kashmir is a major problem between India and Pakistan. Most often the cloak on every issue and problem between states is sewn from the thread of emotions and "principles" for public consumption. Actually, and in hard reality it is rarely so. At the expense of sounding non-chalant, let me state that never have I ever believed, notwithstanding the public emotion, that Pakistan's establishment had ever coveted Kashmir because of its Muslim residents and India because of its secular credentials. If there was ever any secularism worth the name in that land of Kashmir, then conversions and Islamic invasion had long destroyed it. What was being dragged on for last few centuries was the coffin of that secularism. Second, if Islamic brotherhood was the concern of the Pakistanis then they should have had a better track record at home to convince even a weak critic. Of course, my eternal question o Pakistan always strikes at the root of this "Islamic Brotherhood" claim: Which "Muslim" and "Islam" are we talking about? The truth about Pakistan's Islamic brotherhood is that its boundaries extend to only Punjabi Sunnis and then it abruptly stops. It assumes vicious forms as soon as it crosses over into the territory of those who believe in Prophet-hood beyond Mohammad. It is then that the love and acceptance that are the hallmark of any brotherhood should - ideally - be exemplified. And that is where it has failed and failed miserably! Actually, and honestly, the frail "love" fails at the boundary of language itself. Bengalis, Mohajirs are living exhibits of that failure. So, to say that Kashmiri Sunni is any more important than a Bengali Sunni.. .or that a Kashmiri Shia will have any more luck than a Punjabi or Sindhi Shia is a tough sell to anyone not unlucky enough to have been brainwashed! DCM Shriram's Hariyali Kisaan Bazaar (HKB) is exclusively for the rural India. They have 160 stores and in the last 2 years the sales have doubled in the stores. Average sales at an HKB store have gone up to Rs 5 lakh a day during the harvest seasons, while it is around a tenth of that during the lean season. That means the turnover of a single HBK store is over Rs 6 crore, annually, while the investment cost varies between Rs 2 crore and Rs 3 crore. Now, thats a breakeven period of roughly 6 months!! Islam is said to be a monotheistic religion. But is it? Look at these two verses. They tell a totally different tale. They essentially say that someone is asserting that "My God is better than Yours". There is no logic to it.. no way to qualify who is greater and why.. just assertive statements in these verses and those before and after. So, they say that there are multiple "Creators" and "Sustainors"... but our version is the best! Hmmm... Will ye call upon Baal and forsake the Best of Creators, [Quran: 37:125, Yusuf Ali] Or is it that thou askest them for some recompense? But the recompense of thy Lord is best: He is the Best of those who give sustenance. [Quran: 23:72, Yusuf Ali] These seem completely at odds with the assertion that God is One and without form. First of all, by saying a "God" is a "He" is giving God a form anyways.. because, to tell that the Big G is a He and not a She, you have to have a distinguihsing "feature".
