India's campaign got off to dismal start as expected! Anjali Bhagwat, Avneet Kaur Sidhu and Samresh Jung who were being considered (on what basis?) as India's best bets for medals - did not even qualify! Now, that tells you one of two things: - the entire Indian shooting team got hit by a BIG psychological barrier simulatenously! - those who considered them as a "bet for medal" were probably using some Indian National Games benchmarks!! How can we keep doing this again and again? Also Tombi Khumujam Devi lost in Judo in a match that lasted only Two and a Half minutes! She lost to Ana Hormigo of Portugal in 48kg category. Read more

Image via WikipediaPakistan's political parties are getting ready to impeach President Musharraf. They will be bringing out the motion to impeach soon (probably by Aug 11). This move could further complicate the already complicated situation in Pakistan! For Impeachment to succeed, 2/3rds of the combined majority of the lower and upper houses of Parliament need to vote in favor. Musharraf is obviously undeterred and is gearing up for a fight. If Musharraf is indeed impeached then it will be a first when the tables were turned on an Army General by politicians! Pakistani Army folks meanwhile are secretly whispering into his ears to simply relinquish and avoid the ignominy of impeachment. Needless to say, Musharraf has had an interesting stint at the nation's helm. Some of his actions and "accomplishments" - at least from Pakistan's perspective: 1. He orchestrated Kargil and nearly succeeded. He totally misread the Indian response and that Indian airforce could be so lethal in the last stages. And finally the diplomatic aggression from India succeeded in bringing his leader to Washington to negotiate without any quid-pro-quo. 2. Changed history in world's eyes after 9-11. He showed the world that he was ready to "give up" his and his government's support for Taliban and Islamcists - which had been used for what Pakistani Army had hitherto called "Strategic Depth" against India. In the ultimate analysis, it is now clear to the US (as it was to India at the onset itself) that his alignment away from Taliban, Al Qaeda and the like was only on paper. Nobody was really caught and the border areas complexity remained a favorite excuse (although Khalid Mohammad, the touted 2nd in command for Al Qaeda was caught in Rawalpindi in a hotel in full camera glare - quite a distance from the famous caves of Pak-Afghan border). Read more

A mind that gives an opinion about a fact is a narrow, limited, destructive mind. …You can translate the fact in one way, and I can translate it in another way. The translation of the fact is a curse which prevents us from seeing the actual fact and doing something about the fact. When you and I discuss our opinions about the fact, nothing is done about the fact; you can add perhaps more to the fact, see more nuances, implications, significance about the fact, and I may see less significance in the facts. But the fact cannot be interpreted; I cannot offer an opinion about the fact. Read more

Former Democractic Presidential candidate John Edwards has admitted that he was having affair with a 42 year old female who recently gave birth to a daughter on Feb 27, 2008. So, the Mr. Clean was not all that clean. When his wife was under health issues and he was running for President, he was also getting in to bed with this lady. I am not the one to make any judgments and affair as an action is just that. An Action. It just goes to show that people when they are facing some tough situations in life do tend to find ways to ease out their emotions. They want a release. And that is what Edwards probably was looking for. Presidential race is not easy and it wasn't so for him as well. Read more

From all accounts, ···Beijing Olympics was a grand occasion! Many people have praised its absolute brilliance. Steven Spielberg was to direct it earlier but he opted out of it because of the Human Rights record of China. Ultimately it were Chinese directors and pyrotechnicians: Chinese film directors like Zhang Yimou (Hero) and artists like Chai Guo (pyrotechnician). I did not watch the ceremony, but looking from the pictures - the colors and the motifs.. it is clear that it was something that only Chinese themselves could have done. No outsider, however brilliant, could have matched the centuries old creative brilliance of that culture.. which they thanfully went ahead with!! Despite the many disputes, protests, and environmental problems and the natural disasters that China has seen recently, the country bounced back with finesse. 91,000 people were packed together in the National Stadium to watch the spectacle! The entry of the national Chinese team was of course, special! The centerpiece was the parade of athletes, climaxing with the entry of the 639-strong Chinese team. Its flag-bearer was basketball idol Yao Ming, accompanied by 9-year-old schoolboy Lin Hao, a survivor of May's devastating earthquake in Sichuan province. Here is a very interesting review by Shekhar Kapur Read more

It is really not complex, though it may be arduous. You see, we don't start with the actual, with the fact, with what we are thinking, doing, desiring; we start with assumptions, or with ideals, which are not actualities, and so we are led astray. To start with facts, and not with assumptions, we need close attention; and every form of thinking not originating from the actual is a distraction. That's why it is so important to understand what is actually taking place both within and around one. Read more

This is another very interesting article from Ezequiel! Enjoy your interaction with the amazing MÉXICO! ******** ********** I’ll start this article by carrying out an exercise in time traveling. I want you to spend 24 hours the same day and month, but choose a year from the one hundred years from your given century A.D. Let’s assume that your physical body adapts a physical body very similar to the people you’re going to have a close encounter with. In order to avoid speaking you will be a mute person, so no answers will be expected from you. You will wake up in one village, as you wake up, open your eyes and memorize your surroundings. Try to listen to every sound generating in your immediate circle of your environment. What do these people do first? Do they participate in a kind of common ritual? Are there special chants, fire, water, herbs, special stones, and incense? How their dialect does sound like? Do they a lot of mimics? When do they have breakfast? What do they use to eat their food? How does this food look like? What are the peculiar smells emanating from this food! What about their taste? Later on how do they dispose their body’s waste materials? What kind of clothing are they wearing? What about their ornaments? Do they carry weapons? If they are what kind are these weapons? How many children are you able to see? What do these children do? How do these people treat their children? What are the children’s chores? I strongly suggest that you create your own activity program in this near, and at the time your same past live event. Think about how they spend their lunch time, dinner time, bed time, hunting time, gathering time, leisure time etc. Because I don’t want to spoil your creativity, you are free to think as many ways as possible. Please keep in mind that, regarding bringing to life your time traveling in beautiful, mysterious, fascinating and wonderful México. Now, your adopted magic country! Read more
