Two posts have struck me today - one, this one on Jodha Akbar from valley Chai; and second, this one on women groping in Pakistan on Pakistani Spectator. While ValleyChai talks about the many contradictions he sees in the religious affiliations of many protagonists linked to the movie and how it is a pleasant surprise; Amna on PakSpectator talks about how she and many women she knows have been groped and molested in Pakistan so many times. On that post, a person gives a comment by invoking religion (Islam) and its teachings. I have been wondering - do people interact nicely with each other or are civil because of religion or despite... or just because they are human beings, to heck with the religion. If Javed Akhtar has written two devotional songs - Man mohana and khwaja-mere-khwaja is it: because of his religion; despite of his religion; or because he is just a human?? We all know what the answer is. Do the people who grope and molest women in Pakistan as per the post, do it because of their human character or is it something to do or not do with their religion? Read more

The whole brain, the mind, the feelings, the body, everything is quiet. Can this quietness, stillness, look at itself, not as an observer who is still? Can the totality of this silence watch its own totality? The silence becomes aware of itself – in this there is no division between an observer and an observed. That is the main point. The silence does not use itself to discover something beyond itself. There is only that silence. Now see what happens. Read more

It has been ages since one has heard some historic speech! Ever since Bush came in, such things just ended. It is amazing, but this is the, what I call, second historic speech from Obama. The first one was on MLK Jr day. It shows this guy's sagacity. How he could have skirted this issue, which most politicians do. But he did not. He took it on. People who want to find fault with this speech will always do. There is no way you can stop the perennial skeptics and haters. But anyone with iota of commonsense will see the greatness of job done here by Obama! Listen and enjoy. Meanwhile, here are some extracts in text format as well: On Slavery and the Constitution: Two hundred and twenty one years ago, in a hall that still stands across the street, a group of men gathered and, with these simple words, launched America’s improbable experiment in democracy. Farmers and scholars; statesmen and patriots who had traveled across an ocean to escape tyranny and persecution finally made real their declaration of independence at a Philadelphia convention that lasted through the spring of 1787. The document they produced was eventually signed but ultimately unfinished. It was stained by this nation’s original sin of slavery, a question that divided the colonies and brought the convention to a stalemate until the founders chose to allow the slave trade to continue for at least twenty more years, and to leave any final resolution to future generations. Of course, the answer to the slavery question was already embedded within our Constitution – a Constitution that had at is very core the ideal of equal citizenship under the law; a Constitution that promised its people liberty, and justice, and a union that could be and should be perfected over time. Read more

Here is another guest article for Drishtikone. John Hammergren is CEO of McKesson Corporation, the Fortune 18 health care services leader. McKesson serves customers at every point of health care and is helping transform the industry into a modern, efficient, and quality-driven system. McKesson has seen industry-leading performance under Hammergren's leadership. During his tenure, the company has more than doubled its revenues and experienced a cultural and business renewal. Hammergren is an HP board member and the recipient of numerous awards for leadership. He is the author of Skin in the Game: How Putting Yourself First Today Will Revolutionize Health Care Tomorrow. by John Hammergren It would be easy, in this long run of important presidential primaries, to be convinced that the problems we have with our health care system can only be resolved through government action and the political process. After all, presidential candidates Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John McCain have each made health care reform a central issue of their campaigns. Political races are all about emphasizing stark differences between positions. But I am encouraged by how much today’s political leaders recognize that our health care crisis – despite that word “care” – is fundamentally a business problem. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of those politicians who understands the urgency for reform. The health care company I lead, McKesson Corporation, turned 175 years old this year. To help us celebrate that proud milestone, Governor Schwarzenegger spoke passionately and convincingly about the opportunities we have before us to bring the health care industry to another level of excellence. I believe he’s right. Historically, every twenty years or so, we have a debate in this country about health care reform. So what’s different now? We’ve enjoyed incredible advances in medical practice and technology over the last few decades. That’s one reason why overall costs have risen but it’s also why American health care, despite the criticism currently in vogue, is the envy of the world. On the other hand, with the best of intentions, the political solutions traditionally put forward to make health care cheaper and more accessible – like artificially capping costs, regulating the services providers offer and restricting consumer choice – have had the opposite effect. Nobody who runs a business is surprised about that. What computer maker or car dealer would worry about price, access or quality if there was no competition for the customer and no reward for distinctive service? Business leaders across the country are keenly aware of these issues. I am a member of the Coalition to Advance Healthcare Reform, a group of more than 50 companies advocating solutions to the health care crisis. In regular conversations with top executives, I hear the same concerns frequently. First, because health care costs are soaring, our employer-based health insurance system is hurting American businesses and the economy. Every product or service an American company offers is more expensive than it should be because employee health care costs are added to the mix. In a global economy, this is making it harder to compete with companies abroad. Second, business leaders, with their background in competitive markets and customer service, look at our health care system and think, “What other industry could operate like this and survive?” Read more

I have a friend. She once married the son of her father's friend. The marriage did not last long because of the adultrous nature of the guy. The parents, instead of circling around their daughter and sympathizing with her as well feeling sorry for having been instrumental in that match, turned on her. They found a rather strange way of pushing off their guilt. By blaming their daughter. The crime of the unscrupulous boy was pasted on their own daughter by them. This is a strange phenomenon. When a person, in order to run away from his or her guilt, instead of facing it, convinces himself of the other's - actually the VICTIM's complicity. The syndrome that my friend's parents reflected is also on show by some Muslim analysts. They somehow try and show how what was an act of terrorists from Middle East or other Muslim countries, was actually - behind the scenes - done by the victims themselves! Read this account below on how this guy creates an entire edifice of how Daniel Pearl's assassin - Omar Sheikh - who was freed by Indian Foreign Minister in one of the most shameful episodes of Indian nation, forced by the hijacking of a plane that was done with the help of Pakistan's entire political machinery (the Consulate official in Nepal used his consular credentials to get past airport security with weapons), was in fact a pre-meditated Indian move. It is besides the point that this same guy and the other guy freed then worked with the Pakistani intelligence to start terrorist organizations as well as help ISI wire money to Mohammad Atta. It is also instructive to know that although Pakistan has been plucking different people out of its kitty to offer to the US for billions of dollars in return, they have refused access to this Omar Sheikh. If he is indeed an Indian agent, then there should be no issue. He should be promptly handed over.. rather a ticket on the next flight to Guantanamo should have been booked right away. Let the Americans strip him naked and get his Indian story out! Why, pray, hold on to him? Why stop any one from interrogating him in his role in Pearl assassination and wiring of money to Atta? For someone who does not know the complete facts of the case, surrounding the events nicely distorted by this author, the writing style may make the rhetoric plausible. But it is just that - a rhetoric. And an attempt at somehow shoving one's guilt up someone else' neck! Fortunately for us, the most interesting hint comes from the premier Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing’s (RAW) own propaganda. Before we move any further, let us recall that quite unlike the ISI that stayed a low-tech human-based operator during and after the Cold War, RAW was so successful at it manipulations that apart from uncountable operations like the execution of the entire royal family of Nepal and successful stonewalling of US intelligence at the time of the Indian nuclear tests in 1998, it had succeeded in penetrating the CIA to a surprising extent. Only recently, a RAW office-bearer fled when it was learnt that pretending to be a mole inside the agency, he was feeding the Americans the Indian propaganda at New Delhi’s will. Read more

I have already talked of the role of Traitors played by Indian Communists in the Indian history since independence. If you have to look for details - the declassified CIA documents that go into the relationships that the Indian communists developed with the Russians and Chinese are very instructive. You can see how the Communists, some of them are the top names in that organization, have played treason with the Indian state. They are guilty of starting underground organizations and arming people in anticipation of Chinese attacks and with help from the Chinese. Not only that these scums also helped China to infiltrate the Indian Defense forces and Military with an aim to cripple our defense. Please read these reports carefully! There is no reason, that I believe, such people should be anywhere close to the seat of power where they can have access to the confidential information and sources within Delhi (or even West Bengal/Kerala). I am amazed (and mad, actually) that at the very least the BJP, which was singled out by these scums so Chinese could attack them, did not try these two organizations for Treason!! 1. The Sino-Indian Border Dispute Section 1: 1950-59 2. The Sino-Indian Border Dispute Section 2: 1959-61 3. The Sino-Indian Border Dispute Section 3: 1961-62 4. The Indian Communist Party and Sino-Soviet Dispute - HK Surjeet influenced by Russia to setup an underground organization - CPI did proceed to recruit a secret organization within the Indian Army - China Russia insisted that the CPI must develop a standby apparatus capable of armed resistance, while intensifying penetration of Indian Military forces. - 4 powerful radio sets had been installed in the office of the China Review in Calcutta to listen to broadcasts from Peking - Chinese Financial Subsidies to sections of the CPI particularly the left faction strongholds in West Bengal - a foreign supply base was now available for the underground organizations with Chinese occupation of Tibet and other frontier areas - letter asking for collaboration in Indian underground organization work aimed at an eventual revolution, because China has a border with India and can provide arms and supplies - Also Jaipal Singh, head of the illegal organization within the Indian Army decided to reactivate his organization in May 1961 following the hard left faction gaining control of the party - Nehru believed China's Communist Leaders were amenable to Gentlemanly persuasion - Nehru's strategy was defensive and he believed strengthening Indian Economy to resist a Chinese Military Attack was adequate Read more

Ancient Hindu scriptures have 6 schools of thoughts - Samkhya, Yoga, Vaisheshika, Purva Mimamsa and Vedanta. Mimamsa means inquiry or investigation. So Purva Mimamsa is Prior inquiry. It refers to the first Karma-Kanda of the Vedas and has this area of the scriptures as its basis. The Uttara Mimamsa is the posterior inquiry, also known as Brahma Mimamsa. The Brahma-Mimamsa looks at Upanishads as its main source and is more concerned about the Jnana kand in the Vedas. Read more
