When we demand an experience of reality – as we all do, don’t we? – to experience it we must know it and the moment we recognise it we have already projected it and therefore it is not real because it is still within the field of thought and time. If thought can think about reality it cannot be reality. We cannot recognize a new experience. It is impossible. We recognize only something we have already known and therefore when we say we have had a new experience it is not new at all. To seek further experience through expansion of consciousness, as is being done through various psychedelic drugs, is still within the field of consciousness and therefore very limited. So we have discovered a fundamental truth, which is that a mind that is seeking, craving, for wider and deeper experience is a very shallow and dull mind because it lives always with its memories. Read more

Personally, and some of my close friends, have seen some tough times in one's life. The times have somethings in common: 1. There is a complete disinterest in the work at hand. 2. Somehow the bad luck seems to pile up - no matter what you do, something doesn't quite add up. 3. You feel your life has been a failure. 4. You don't see much direction 5. Every issue in life seems to be linked. So how do you handle this? This is a circle. A vicious circle. Where depression and lows in one area or inability to break through keeps adding on to another one. I cannot find a job > I will have to deal with a bad boss > He makes me depressed > cannot perform at my best > need to put in more hard work and time > not enough time to look for a job. So what do you do? In my experience, this vicious circle made of various chains - where most are not in your hand, and it frustrates you. But in all this depressive scenario, there is always one, just one, area where the resolution of the issue is in YOUR hand. It depends on your effort, ingenuity or passion. You will have the urge to attack your problems from all the angles. Youwill want to fight all your problems. However, such a strategy is not useful because: Read more

Yes, I think there should be enough movement amongst the athletes to refuse going to Beijing. There is no need to encourage such a rogue state. In any case, the world is ignoring the China threat at its own peril. Read more

It was officially explained in New Delhi that those arrested had engaged in dangerous activities which impaired the security of the State and had "prepared for something like a revolutionary action in the country when a suitable occasion arises, and that suitable opportunity could be if and when the Chinese chose to attack. Who do you think this was said for? The date was December 30, 1964 and over 500 members of the Left-wing Communist Party were arrested under Defence of India Rules. Two major names that were in those arrested were Jyoti Basu and Harkishan Singh Surjeet. Their crime? They were backing China up when the Indian soldiers were being killed by the Chinese Army, which had taken advantage of the naivette of Nehru and had planted numerous Jaichands like Basu and Surjeet to facilitate their work! In 1964, the Communist Party had split, one which gone towards the Soviets and the other towards the Chinese at the height of Sino-Soviet tension. While India had been beaten, the pro-Peking (ex-name of Beijing) members of the Communist party were busy shoring up the support in India for normalization. Read more

Sarabjit Singh is to be hanged for involvement in a bomb case in Pakistan and for spying. As many suspect, he maybe an innocent victim. In a country where the courts and judges are nothing but a complete mockery of justice and anybody can kick around with them, is it any wonder that outsiders have less than little faith in the system? Surely, if Sarabjit is guilty and has killed people, he must get to face the law of the land. But according to any decent law, Death Sentence is given ONLY when there is evidence beyond any shadow of doubt that the murder or the act was done by the perpetrator. Is that true in case of Sarabjit? I feel that at the very least Indian Government should ask the Pakistani Government to share the evidence and the process of prosecution so one knows that it was all done fairly. If it was done fairly, then there is nothing wrong in sharing it. But India is led by this gentleman - Dr. Manmohan Singh, who will go down in history as the most impotent and spineless PM India has ever had. He could not utter a word when his colleagues made a mincemeat of the nations highest educational institutions and has repeatedly raised the bogie of RSS for everything that his party or his leaders ever did! Now, this guy, who was having sleepless nights when Australia was handling another Indian through their legal system; is not even whimpering a dissatisfaction! Read more

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite. Read more

Here is the take of Krishnamurti on Enlightenment: Questioner: I still don’t know what you mean by enlightenment? Krishnamurti: A state of negation. Negation is the most positive action, not positive assertion. This is a very important thing to understand. Most of us so easily accept positive dogma, a positive creed, because we want to be secure, to belong, to be attached, to depend. The positive attitude divides and brings about duality. The conflict then begins between this attitude and others. But the negation of all values, of all morality, of all beliefs, having no frontiers, cannot be in opposition to anything. A positive statement in its very definition separates, and separation is resistance. To this we are accustomed, this is our conditioning. To deny all this is not immoral; on the contrary to deny all division and resistance is the highest morality. To negate everything that man has invented, to negate all his values, ethics and gods, is to be in a state of mind in which there is no duality, therefore no resistance or conflict between opposites. In this state there are no opposites, and this state is not the opposite of something else. Read more

I was young and I slept so much that it was a joke! Whenever people would come to meet me, I would be sleeping. Yet, I was thinner. Does sleep have anything to do with your weight? Well, to be fair in my case I was a lot younger and so very high metabolism and also a lot more exercise. But still, does sleep affect your weight and health? Apparently, according to a study from Nihon University, those who sleep less than 5 hours a day are more prone to obesity and have higher levels of blood sugar that could lead to obesity. Lack of sleep triggers a hormone that increases a sense of hunger and appetite for high calorie foods. So, not only should one exercise, one should also have a good night's sleep to keep healthy. Read more

She sat on the bathroom seat for 2 years on the go. Her boy friend would give her food and water on the bathroom seat itself. He would ask her to come out but she would refuse and promise to come out the subsequent day. So, two years after she had been sitting on the seat, the boy friend called the police. They came to take her off the seat. To their surprise, she was now STUCK to the seat. Her skin had grown around the seat!! They cut off the toilet and took it with her to the hospital so it could be taken off her body! Am I hallucinating or can this be real? Apparently it happened in Wichita, US. Something is wrong with the world out there. Read more

Yes, that is the cheapest way for him to stay healthy and alive. Oliver Sherwood is afflicted with pulmonary hypertension (PH), a rare heart and lung condition that causes chronic high blood pressure. Generally this disease affects middle-aged women and the survival time span for these patients is 5 years. There are other ways to handle this disease of course, but Viagara is the cheapest way out. PH causes the blood pressure in the arteries in the lungs to rise, putting strain on the heart and reducing blood oxygen levels. He can't walk more than a few steps without getting out of breath and a simple chest infection could kill him. Read more
