People around the world fear lonliness. They run away. They make up alibis. They fill their lives with things that are temporary.. loud.. and get into the crowds to run away from being alone. Alone with ones ownself is the scariest scenario for most. One friend's mother died and father could not bear the loss. A friend has lost all love for her spouse and is alone in this world - with no one to share emotions with. We are all looking for crutches. Often people brandish certificates and awards as their mark of accomplishment.. of how they defeated a crowd. But really is that a distinction? Or is winning over your fear or your ownself? What do you do when you are alone? Read more

Finally, the Indian team is coming back after a rather acrimonious tour of Australia. Many things happened - specially to the spinner Sardar - Harbhajan Singh. He was slapped a racism charge and soon every pseudo and his brother in India started self beating and denounced India and our culture. As if what was said to Harbhajan and the process by which he was FRAMED was all justified. Frankly, the Australians have an issue with the off-spinners. First it was Murlitharan of Sri Lanka and now our guy. Or maybe its anyone who stands up to their bullying. If just the players were into this nonsense it was still understandable, but what surprised was that an entire part of the crowd first said some pretty unspeakable things to Harbhajan and then tried to frame him once more! I can understand one player or two feeling the insecurity but here was a strange case of not only the team but a nation feeling insecure of itself. Read more

Interesting joke sent by a friend - Sanjay Taneja. *********** One day my mother was out and my dad was in charge of me. I was maybe 2 years old and recovering from an illness. Someone had given me a little 'tea set' as a get-well gift and it was one of my favorite toys. Daddy was in the living room engrossed in the evening news when I brought him a little cup of 'tea', which was just water. After several cups of tea and lots of praise for such yummy tea, Mom came home. Daddy made her wait in the living room to watch me bring him a cup of tea, because it was 'just the cutest thing!' Read more

Yesterday, I came across these ads from the Indian media. Some of them are hillarious! I truly feel advertising is FAR more vibrant in India as opposed to the US. The brilliance of the Indian ad folks is just breath-taking. There is life in it. What really amazed me with this ad is that its NOT for a product or a company. It is for a beauty parlour in Delhi! This shows that local advertising has arrived in India where even your local neighborhood "Parchoon ki dukan" or "beauty Parlour" will be spending in lacs on just advertising! Read more

A fearful mind cannot be a spiritual mind. A mind where fear exists, will not be able to approach the Truth. Such a mind, because of its aversion to the object of fear will create new camouflages.. new make-beliefs. Such running away from the the basic normal reality of life and world as we live in cannot lead you to transcendant consciousness. But does religion really have to do with such a journey? They say Jesus was crucified and blessed those who killed him. His followers then started an entire religion about him making a mockery of his message. The same goes for Sikh Gurus - specially Guru Nanak. I doubt he would have carried a kripan (or the dagger) for his security or religiousness. Yet, the believing Sikhs (who want to be completely religious) go about carrying such a kripan as if leaving it will make them less of a Sikh than Guru Nanak himself was! This is a crazy situation. The Pope - who purports to be Jesus' representative on Earth now is scared for his life. Well, there are many loonies who would want to kill him. The sane dont care about him 🙂 Well, but his life is in danger or so he believes. And Jesus Christ and his message may be fine to speak and throng about.. but he has no pretentions about living such a message. What if he is killed? Jesus was a pauper - so he had nothing to live for anyway.. Pope is a king who rules over billions of euros worth of property and lives in arguably the most expensive neighborhood in the world and has the arduous job of saving the "souls" of billions.. speaking Jesus' message! 🙂 What is Jesus to Pope btw? Is he anything more than a prop? Honestly! If Jesus came today and wanted to live in Vatican ... in his dirty clothes and his attire. Would he be able to? Would anyone even believe he is Jesus? So Pope is coming to Interfaith meet (in US) and Sikhs were going to go there.. but cannot. Why? Because they have another prop to live up to. His name was Guru Nanak. Guru Nanak and other Gurus including Guru Tegh Bahadur, father of the last Guru - Guru Gobind Singh - were in the same spiritual mould as Jesus. Read more

There are many stories of personal triumph as is this. It is of a autistic kid who could not talk properly but through enthusiasm was helping the coach of a basketball team.. and then one day he played the game. It was down to the last second, with the ball in his hand to shoot for the game... look on. Read more

This is a drill that bothers every business traveller in the morning but one has endure thinking that announcing the security and safety measures is a necessary thing. And it is assumed that everything that is announced in that safety pitch will work. Oxygen masks will fall and oxygen will actually flow and if God forbid something goes wrong, people can get some basic help. Well, in this American Airlines flight, a woment died while she could not be administered oxygen. There were two oxygen tanks there - so that was great. But both were empty. And the defibrillator was not working as well. The state and services in the domestic airlines in the US really suck! Recently some airlines have started charging extra for the second baggage. Read more
