A few policemen in New York city saw a homeless Guatemalan immigrant dying on the roadside. What do you think they did? (i) take him to hospital emergency (ii) stood around joking about him and laughing away while he was dying? Well, it was the second! They were taped chuckling and joking - making fun of Rene Perez while he was dying. And what do you think the Police Chief comes and tells everyone? "We are not callous or indifferent." Oh yeah???!!! Maybe he doesn't get English or simple things in life.. but these cops in NYC are just clueless about life and intelligence in general! I am not sure how the New Yorkers can keep such lawless idiots in their midst as their law enforcers! Police officers were taped joking about a dying, homeless Guatemalan immigrant after he was found on the side of a deserted road in their suburban town, a TV station reported. Read more

Can you say, ‘I will practise love. I will sit down day after day and think about it. I will practise being kind and gentle and force myself to pay attention to others’? Do you mean to say that you can discipline yourself to love, exercise the will to love? When you exercise discipline and will to love, love goes out of the window. By practising some method or system of loving you may become extraordinarily clever or more kindly or get into a state of non-violence, but that has nothing whatsoever to do with love. Read more

One of the world's most advanced spy satellite with a camera that has capabilities to see through any weather conditions was launched into orbit for Israel by ISRO - Indian Space research Organization. It is the most advanced satellite in its class and Israel had asked for Indian help to put it into orbit 3 years back. The launch took place from Sri Harikota. This satellite will keep an eye on Iran - specifically on the nuclear program. Israel is worried on that front and through this, Israel gets a peek on that. This launch also put India firmly on the Satellite Launching market map as one of the top runners! Last year, ISRO launched an Italian satellite for USD 11 million. Read more

In the Islamic world, circumcision is common, both for men and women. The women are circumcised as it will control her libido and make her attractive! The men because it will save them from disease! The practice of circumcision is useless in many ways, but the female circumcision is specially brutal! It is brutal in the way it is handled and the effect it can have on the kid. In Africa they have now banned this. In some other countries it still goes on. Like in Indonesia. Look at this story from New York Times.. When a girl is taken — usually by her mother — to a free circumcision event held each spring in Bandung, Indonesia, she is handed over to a small group of women who, swiftly and yet with apparent affection, cut off a small piece of her genitals. Sponsored by the Assalaam Foundation, an Islamic educational and social-services organization, circumcisions take place in a prayer center or an emptied-out elementary-school classroom where desks are pushed together and covered with sheets and a pillow to serve as makeshift beds. The procedure takes several minutes. There is little blood involved. Afterward, the girl’s genital area is swabbed with the antiseptic Betadine. She is then helped back into her underwear and returned to a waiting area, where she’s given a small, celebratory gift — some fruit or a donated piece of clothing — and offered a cup of milk for refreshment. She has now joined a quiet majority in Indonesia, where, according to a 2003 study by the Population Council, an international research group, 96 percent of families surveyed reported that their daughters had undergone some form of circumcision by the time they reached 14. These photos were taken in April 2006, at the foundation’s annual mass circumcision, which is free and open to the public and held during the lunar month marking the birth of the prophet Muhammad. Read more

…If you cry out of self-pity your tears have no meaning because you are concerned about yourself. If you are crying because you are bereft of one in whom you have invested a great deal of affection, it was not really affection. When you cry for your brother who dies cry for him. It is very easy to cry for yourself because he is gone. Apparently you are crying because your heart is touched, but it is not touched for him, it is only touched by self-pity and self-pity makes you hard, encloses you, makes you dull and stupid. Read more

Dost Dost na raha from "Sangam" sung by Mukesh There are some songs that haunt you for a long time to come. This was one of those songs for me! The haunting melody by Shankar Jaikishen and the amazing lyrics by the amazing Shailendra! There is one line that has fascinated me ever since I understood its meaning and significance. The expression is as beautiful as it comes. "Safar ke waqt mein palak pe motiyon ko tolti" - I had never cared about this line ... but what it means is "When I was leaving for my journey you were standing there weighing the pearls (of tears) with your lashes (as they fell)".. its a simple thing that he is expressing but the beauty of expression is unmatched! Enjoy the song below if you are reading this after Jan 20, 2007; otherwise play it on the left hand sidebar... Read more

What is the US of today and what did it start as? There is a big difference. If you read through the thoughts of the founding fathers of the US, the discrepancy between the reality of today and back then is HUGE! See some of these statements below from Thomas Jefferson. The cartoon on the right explains this sentiment very clearly! "Peace... has been our principle, peace is our interest, and peace has saved to the world this only plant of free and rational government now existing in it... However, therefore, we may have been reproached for pursuing our Quaker system, time will affix the stamp of wisdom on it, and the happiness and prosperity of our citizens will attest its merit. And this, I believe, is the only legitimate object of government and the first duty of governors, and not the slaughter of men and devastation of the countries placed under their care in pursuit of a fantastic honor unallied to virtue or happiness; or in gratification of the angry passions or the pride of administrators excited by personal incidents in which their citizens have no concern." --Thomas Jefferson to Thaddeus Kosciusko, 1811.
