This was an ad from a Pakistan International Airlines in 1979! Was it a pointer to things to come? The areas where the plane shows on the towers is exactly the place where they were hit. Also look at the "smoke" coming out.. or is it the paper effect? Read more

Britney Spears may be converting to Islam and moving to Pakistan. All the best to her! She is going around with Adnan Ghalib, who runs after such "prize catches" and works with a photo agency! His parents - Ghalib and Saghra - have disowned him due to his run in with the Spears bombshell. It is something about the Pakistani men that attracts women of other nations. I know of Indian women - who went in with a relationship with some Pakistani men.. and the Western women - specially of the high society. Hasnat Khan has come out now talking of his affair with Diana. Then there was Imran Khan and Jemima Khan. But some Pakistani women are left wondering, as to what is it that these Western women find so appealing about their men, since they seem so chauvinistic from close quarters. Shahida Haq, another homemaker, wondered what is it about Pakistani men that make them so "special" to Western women. Read more
Here is an interesting plea from a Pakistani reader about the problems of bathrooms in the Pakistani hotels in a "Letter to the Editor" of a major daily newspaper! The issue - is that the hotel bathroom have tissue papers and no water to clean up after the "act". So he insists that all the Pakistani hotels have water as the preferred means and all the foreigners can carry their own toilet rolls from abroad if they so wish! This apparently he says is the "Islamic way" to clean in the bathroom, or in other words - toilet paper is unIslamic! There are things that religion can and should probably get into - like freeing your mind, meditation and love etc... but cleaning in the toilet??? This is taking things a BIT too far! More importantly, despite all the strife in the nation going on, do these papers have nothing much to show in their Editorial sections (although I got it from the online version). Journalists the world over it seems have lost their perspective! There are many ways to improve a nation which is in its worst crisis... a change in toilet cleaning mechanisms in the hotels is hardly one of them!! This is to draw attention to the inexplicable lack of common sense exhibited by leading hotels in Pakistan. I am particularly referring to the absence of muslim showers in the bathrooms. It may seem absurd to read this at first but imagine yourself sitting in the bathroom and after having finished, facing the horror of having to clean up with mere tissues! I really don’t understand why bathrooms are planned in such a manner in Pakistan. All across the world, we do find muslim showers in bathrooms if you are visiting a Muslim country, with, of course, the exception of Pakistan. Why? Are hotels in Pakistan only catering to Westerners? Or are they implementing indirectly that the rates are so high that people from Pakistan cannot afford to live there? Read more

Throughout the world, so-called holy men have maintained that to look at a woman is something totally wrong: they say you cannot come near to God if you indulge in sex, therefore they push it aside although they are eaten up with it. But by denying sexuality they put out their eyes and cut out their tongues for they deny the whole beauty of the earth. They have starved their hearts and minds; they are dehydrated human beings; they have banished beauty because beauty is associated with woman. J. Krishnamurti Read more
Harbhajan's incident is the most bizarre because it takes you back to the colonial days of Racism. What Harbhajan is supposed to have done is perhaps not as blatantly racial as the way that joker Mike Proctor went about giving the ban on him. Read what Sunil Gavaskar, arguably one of the best openers the world has ever seen has to say on this. "The off-spinner has denied having used the word which has caused offence and in the absence of any audio recording and most crucially with both umpires not having heard it, the charge should have been dropped straight away for lack of corroborating evidence," Gavaskar wrote in his column for a reputed newspaper. "By accepting the word of the Australian players and not the Indian players, the match-referee has exposed himself to the charge of taking a decision based not on facts, but on emotion." The 58-year-old Gavaskar, who is also the head of the ICC's rule-making committee, said it had incensed millions of Indians who had been asking why his decision should not be considered a racist one. "Millions of Indians want to know if was a 'white man' taking the 'white man's' word against that of the 'brown man'. Quite simply if there was no audio evidence nor did the officials hear anything then the charge did not stand," he wrote. Read more
