Technology is a strange thing. People are changing everyday and using the new tools in the most innovative ways. Here is a guy - using the Islamic Shariat law as his moral backing - sent his third SMS to Divorce his wife. The wife has appealed against the "divorce" in the Egyptian court but if the divorce is upheld (of which there is a precendence for in the Egyptian law) then this might well be the first case of Divorce by SMS! Read more

Drishtikone logo was created by Lakshmi Mareddy who runs ChilliGavva. She very generously made this logo for me - even though I had not asked for it. Reason: because she liked the blog but not the logo! 🙂 So she wanted to improve the situation. There are very few people in this world who go out of their way to do a good deed for others without asking. Lakshmi is one of those few! In fact she not only created the logo for Drishtikone, but she also created a version for my twitter account. Drishtikone is very grateful to her for her act of generosity! Now, something about ChilliGavva. I came across this site and was instantly struck by the beautiful design that Lakshmi had created and the detail that her CSS had to bring in all those special things and effects. Also, striking is her sense of design. Very contemporary, clean yet sophisticated. Please do visit it and enjoy her work! Thanks Lakshmi! Read more

Peter Roebuck is furious at the way Australians played the game of cricket in the second match in Sydney. What he is commenting on is the way Australians attempted to cheat the opposing team and the umpires. There is a controversy surrounding the match where Harbhajan Singh has been banned by the ICC refree Michael Proctor for 3 matches under the Rule 3.3 of ICC's Code of Conduct (see attachment for the "Code of Conduct" document) that deals with using language or gestures that insult a person on the basis of race, religion, colour, descent or national or ethnic origin. Harbhajan called Andrew Symonds a "monkey"! This is not the first ban that Mike Proctor has handed out. He handed out another ban to Rashid Latif in September, 2003 after the 3rd test of Pakistan-Bangladesh series. Why? Based on Clause C1 which deals with "Conduct COntrary to the spirit of the game" and explains it thus: This is meant as a general catch all clause. Conduct which will be prohibited under the clause includes using an illegal bat or illegal wicket keeping gloves, time wasting, cheating during play (includes deliberate attempts to mislead the umpire), failure to comply with the provisions of clause 7.1 of the Standard Playing Conditions and any conduct which is considered “unfair play” under Law 42. Read more

Due to complete lack of sportmanship and mindless games that Australians have played to win over India in the ongoing series including the indictment of Harbhajan Singh, India may suspend the tour from here on. To best understand the mess here is the incident that says it all. Mahendra Singh Dhoni played and Ricky Ponting, the captain "caught" the ball at silly point. He appealed vociferously! Dhoni was given not out. But the Indian journalists questioned Australian captains integrity at having been so adamant and emphatic! As the ball had been grounded while catching, what was the sense for all that drama? To which Ponting started casting aspersions on the journalist itself - despite the inconvertible evidence from the replays: "There's no way I grounded that ball," Ponting told a press conference. "If you're actually questioning my integrity in the game, then you shouldn't be standing there." Read more

West Bengal has a strange bunch of people! It is the area in India which has produced highest number of people who received Nobel Prizes (and some who should have but did not due to discrimination) from India. It has produced people who excelled in science, art, literature, poetry, nationalism, warfare and music! Yet, it is decidedly one of the backwater states of India today! One of the worst states in terms of adding anything much of economic value to the country. It wasn't so some decades back. For over 25 years, one person ruled over that state. One party ruled the entire edifice of that area on just ONE slogan - Power to the poor - through Socialism and Communism. Along the way, these people (treacherously) went against the interests of the Indian Union when it was attacked by the external masters of this party.... bankrupted the Public sector plants and factories and made the tax payers from the rest of the India pay for their greed.. to help them make beggars of the employees of those plants.. instead of instilling any confidence and pride in their own workmanship. Read more

I had blogged it for a long time now. The role of Pakistan in providing the Nuclear Technology to North Korea and the quid pro quo of getting missiles in return! (The Missing Question . Inescapable Ditch). For all the questions asked about North Korea's Nukes, it was fairly obvious on the manner of exchange! What was not clear to some experts was the modus operandi of this exchange! Now, a friend of Benazir Bhutto - an Indian journalist and a friend of hers - who had promised not to reveal this secret until she was alive, has come out with the exact way it all happened! Benazir Bhutto - personally - delivered the design of Nukes warhead design to North Korea using her overcoat pockets! Shyam Bhatia details it in his article here: The most extraordinary part of our conversation, which I promised never to reveal in her life time, was Benazir’s role in exporting her country’s nuclear secrets to North Korea. She had participated in the negotiations to give Pakistan’s nuclear bomb details to North Korea in exchange for missile technology from Pyongyang. Read more
