Social Networks are a rage these days. There are social networks of all hues and colors! What counts are the numbers - the number of members in those networks. So, where does a fresh start-up social networking company go to get members? INDIA, of course! Now, here is a social networking company - Famesource.com - that is openly paying Indians 10 cents a sign up. And there is an ad on Craiglist Bangalore as well to promote the deal! The bummer - according to their promoters - they havent got a SINGLE SIGN UP! 🙂 There is obviously a discussion on the "integrity" issue of signing up "fake" Indian members using money here at Valleywag. Even the promoters of the site have posted their thoughts on this blog clarifying their stand and actions. What do you think? We are not offering any monetary incentive for people to sign-up, as your article suggests. 2008 Resolutions

This year I am making some resolutions. I want to do things better. What are your resolutions. Better Personal Management: 2007 was a better year from financial management standpoint. The next year should have a stronger discipline. I need to add relentless discipline. I lose that often. Look for cost cutting in the year to eke out more savings. Manage stuff better. Assign personal folder and put in my important documents such as passports, certificates etc. Also, create a folder for credit card bills, bank statements, taxes, insurance and work documents. I also need to categorize and keep a database of my books and music. Also, assign "Cleaning Days" every month for going through my laptop bag, for going through my desk - home and office and my wallet to get rid of the junk. I will also assign "Personal Rejuvenation Days" - once in two months to spend on my own with my thoughts. Read more

New Mexico Judge puts 14-yr Rape Victim in Jail!

Its not only those nutty Islamic countries that put rape victims (instead of rapists) in jail after the crime. It also happens in the US of A. Here, is decidedly the most bizarre scene where the judge puts a 14 year old - YES.. a MINOR - in the Jail AFTER she was raped - because.. ok, listen to this innovative BS "(because) her office was just trying to protect her." And then, our Good Samaritan judge goes on vacation - while this 14 year old languishes in jail! Heck, 2007 will go down as the Year of the Rapists! For these guys made merry while their victims paid for .. well.. BEING the victims! The district attorney's office is getting renewed criticism after throwing a girl in jail believed to have been raped. But Kari Brandenburg says her office was just trying to protect her. A victim advocates group filed an objection to the material witness warrant issued for the girl Saturday. Prosecutors used that warrant to put the 14-year-old behind bars for five days. The DA's office asked for the warrant after the girl failed to show up to testify against her stepfather, whom she said sexually abused her. Read more

Do you have a phone number for life? Well, there is a new company - GrandCentral - that tries to do just that! It has been bought by Google. How do they do that? You get a number which can be assigned to any - ANY - number you have already (cell, landline etc). So, no matter where you are - your "GrandCentral" number stays with you. The site is still in "Private Beta". Here is the official stuff on what is available: # All your calls through a single number. Add your other numbers to your GrandCentral account and then make your own rules for how and when your phones ring. Go to the Settings tab and look under Phones to add forwarding numbers and change your settings. Read more
