Well scientists in the Bhavnagar University of Gujarat have done something very interesting... well it sounds interesting to a non-scientists anyways 🙂 They have trapped light in a "soup" of nano and micro particles! Physicists at the Bhavnagar University in Gujarat, India, have demonstrated how to trap and retrieve light using a soup of micro- and nano-sized magnetic spheres.1 The unusual fluid, they say, works at room temperature, holds photons for far longer than other systems, and can also be tuned with a magnet to store any wavelength of visible light. 'The discovery could pave the way for lab-on-a-chip devices for processing optical information,' Rasbindu Mehta, who led the team, told Chemistry World. Read more

Look at the difference! Well, at the very least she aint shying away from the camera when without the make up .. and is confident enough to make a public appearance! I kinda like this actress. I think in modern times - after Kajol, she is the best around. Kajol obviously was the best in last many decades! She combined the spontaneity of her Mom (Tanuja) and the sensitivity of her Aunt (Nutan). Read more

Suchitra Krishnamurthi talks about the power of the Pink color.. and provides links to this story of women of Banda area in UP who are dressed in pink (or is it purple?) and call themselves "Gulabi Gang". They strike fear in the hearts corrupt politicians and officials by going on protests. Hundreds of women are part of this gang. Cool concept huh? If they were in the US, they would have already started a comic strip or written a racy TV series on it.. The several hundred vigilante women of India's northern Uttar Pradesh state's Banda area proudly call themselves the "gulabi gang" (pink gang), striking fear in the hearts of wrongdoers and earning the grudging respect of officials. Read more

Today I talked about Belgium having no National Government running the country for last 6 months. Now here is an example of an entire FAKE Municipal Government office running in Jhansi in UP! They had employed people and were issuing certificates and doing work normally until the people in that office complained to the seniors in the REAL office that they hadn't gotten any salary! Hmmm... the "seniors" thought, do we have an office in that town? Well, if we dont function there, how the heck are you to get paid? Because YOUR office IS running, dummies! Read more

A friend told me about this blog of a prisoner serving life in the Texas Penitentiary (Prison) for something he had done. This guy writes stock/investment analysis that are amazingly detailed and useful. He has a lot of fans/people who follow his blog! He seems to be a smart guy who just made some drastically wrong choices in life. His modus operandi is that he sends written notes to this friend's brother who posts his notes as blogs. Quite interesting. Here is a sample of his thoughts on the world of alternative energy: Read more

Belgium has a strange problem - it has had no Government for last 6 months. Why? Because there is no consensus on which way to go! French and Dutch speakers; LIberals and Conservatives have issues with each other. IN my view, it speaks to the resilience of the country and people that the country is working without a Government! Wonder how the US will be if there was no President for 6 months!? Read more

I am now using the Denver theme. The issues I had with it earlier was that IE didnt like (that bummer of a browser!!). I am stupid because I didnt read the instructions on the theme page itself and this was the reason: You can find that setting at the bottom of the admin menu under Administer -> Site Configuration -> Performance (at the bottom of the page) -> Aggregate and compress CSS files: Read more

The disbelief and the reaction in the US totally baffles me and makes me laugh! If someone is smart enough to create a supercomputer from chips picked up from black market.. then more power to them! Ideally AMD should have built one by now... or some pc company. People with brains will do what it takes to make themselves powerful. You cannot blame them for doing so. To sit up and start throwing tantrums - as Bush Administration and other US Governments are wont to do - is highly unproductive! Virtues and piety is not the preserve of any one nation or people. Same goes for terror. Read more
