Now, thankfully for the women right activists, women just as men can serve liquor in Delhi's Bars. That Delhi is the worst city for women is another matter. Thanks to the crude and vulgar Haryanvi Jats and uncontrollable spoilt rich youth with lots of money and little brains, we have a situation of utter chaos in terms of women safety in India's capital. So, I am sure this new ruling will add some fuel to the fire.. and make the life of police (who are there to save as opposed to rape the women) tougher. Read more
Despite the conservative wave in the US for last 8 years, things have not gone well for the umarried and teen pregnancies. They are on the rise! The birth rate for teenagers increased in 2006 in the United States for the first time since 1991, while childbearing among unmarried women surged to the highest level on record, health officials said on Wednesday. Across-the-board increases in birth rates for women ages 15 to 44 drove the total U.S. fertility rate -- the estimated average number of births for women in their lifetimes -- to its highest mark since 1971, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a report. Now this is what I would call a GOOD deal!! A flower pot for a porsche! A thief in Germany used a flower pot to steal a 150,000 euro ($221,000) Porsche. Reversing out of his open garage, the car's owner heard a scraping noise and got out to investigate, police in the western city of Bonn said Tuesday. As the 56-year-old was bending down to remove a flower pot jammed against a tire, a man pushed him aside, leaped behind the wheel and drove off in his grey Porsche 997 Turbo. "All the shocked man could do was jump to one side to avoid being run over," police said. Read more
At a time when the air travel is back up .. and people are travelling more than ever again in the US, this is a rather grim reminder that high volume does pose a threat! I have always considered the North East corridor to be one of the worst areas for air travel in the US! The entire arch from Chicago to Atlanta comprising the 3 big airports in NYC and NJ are a mess. It probably has become important to route big loads to Southern airports like say in Texas or maybe one in Arizona.. where there is enough land and space to build and enhance airports! Read more
I landed back in Houston from my trip to India yesterday. I will write in detail on my trip later.. this post will be about my journey back home. I went through three airports - IGIA Delhi, Charles De Gaulle Paris, and Bush Intercontinental Houston. All had their own lessons. It is when you do a trip abroad that is when you realize why the US is the best economy in the world. It doesnt have the greatest infrastructure, nor the brightest men and women. What is has is the efficiency of the processes. No one has that. How important is that one feature? TREMENDOUSLY! IGIA, Delhi When I came into the Delhi airport, the teeming travellers made that place look like a swarm. System, if any, was very difficult to see. The line to just ENTER the airport was extremely long. I went in, had the bags wrapped. And then I asked about the security screening of the bags. I was sent to another side - there were no signs for it.. but I made it easily. I got my screening done and then got my checkin. I have travelled by Continental for the last two trips to India, but this one was with Air France. My experiences with Continental Ground staff in Delhi were EXCELLENT! This was not so this time.. although I was still a platinum of a SkyMiles partner. The helpful nature was not so evident. Read more
This is a usual problem with the Indian legal system. I believe some analysis should be done and the areas where more cases are pending and which create major mess (say, like property) should have a distinct and separate legal sub-system created.. just for it! It is time to branch off the stress to new sub systems.. rather than to burden the existing system! The judges are overworked, the infrastructure is shabby and the judicial system is creaking at several levels, especially in subordinate courts. Read more
