Dr. Muthuswamy, the author of the book "The Art of War on Terror" argued in his comments to my last post that Indian land mass and resources were after all divided and 25% was taken away by the Muslims. And in both the areas, the minorities - specifically the Hindus - were either thrown out or converted or simply finished off. You can also add Kashmir now - where a systematic religious cleansing was undertaken by the Jehadis and the Indian Hindus did NOTHING! So, he argues, why give any reservations to Muslims at all? If they are poor in India - it must be their "doing". I agree with him on this. Like I have said early too - I was part of the study done in UP on Minorities (Muslims) economic and social development. And our findings clearly stated that Muslims are in the throes of the fundamentalist and useless madrasa education. Until they get out of that - I do not see any improvements! Here is another post from Indian Muslims site - which was interesting. IN many areas, Muslims are discriminated against and not given the opportunity to live in certain apartment complexes. I do agree that the discrimination against the Muslims is really undesirable in the context of Indian ethos. But for a moment, let us assume this was Saudi Arabia or Pakistan. Would such a question be even raised?? If a Hindu was denied residence - would that tantamount to discrimination?? Would any one talk about it? Why not? Read more

Indian Muslims are the second largest community on religious basis (over 20% of India's population is Muslim). Now, of course, to an outsider a Muslim is a Muslim is a Muslim. But is it true? No!, says Mohib. Here is why: Also, Sunnis are not just Sunnis as in Sunnis versus Shias. There are at least three major groups of Sunnis in India. Deobandis, Barelvis and Ahl-e-Hadith. There is so much acrimony between them that they had to create their own Personal Law Boards. Each of these groups believes the other group to be at least at some level of kufr (disbelief), though they don’t claim it openly. In some regions, the followers of one sect do not even shake hands with the followers of other sect. They have been told that their marriage would be absolved on doing so. So much for all Sunnis as Sunnis and I have not even started the Shia versus Sunni thing. Read more

How we approach our sites and where we "reside" says something about us and who we are. I did not quite realize that the social networking sites would end up revealing our "class" and our background. But a new study has revealed that people from similar demographics tend to flock to similar social networking sites. A long-term research project has revealed a sharp division along class lines among the American teenagers flocking to the social network sites. The research suggests those using Facebook come from wealthier homes and are more likely to attend college.By contrast, MySpace users tend to get a job after finishing high school rather than continue their education. Read more

Iran is a friend of Afghanistan against Taliban/Al Qaeda and an enemy of US in a war against Al Qaeda. Go figure! These two lines explain why US is in such a mess and why this mess would not stop! The Bush administration considers Iran to be a dangerous influence on its neighbors. But Hamid Karzai, president of Afghanistan, regards Iran as a helper. Ok, here goes: Iran is Shia. Pakistan, Al Qaeda, most Jihadis are Sunnis. They are classic enemies. PERIOD! There is no way in hell that Iran can help Al Qaeda. If Al Qaeda did the 9-11, then Iran and NOT Pakistan should have been the War ally for US! As for Pakistan, their Army and Intelligence has too much invested in the Jihadi movement to let it all go. Despite the fact that the same frankenstein monster has turned on itself (Lal Masjid). Taliban is Pakistan's greatest friend. Taliban's worst enemy in Afghanistan was Northern Alliance - SHIAS! Who helped Northern Alliance against Taliban? Iran! So, who is Karzai's friend against Taliban? Yeah.. easy right? IRAN! What about Pakistan? Hmmm.. if you have a modicum of smarts you would have figured that one out! Read more

Criminal smarts are not beholden to education intellect. Here is a female who hasnt studied beyond Class 10 and is as young as 27 and has already duped private banks in India (run by arguably the smartest folks in finance) of Rs 6.4 million! She was finally caught when Citibank sent cops to WIPRO to catch 3 employees who had run off with Rs 3 lakhs. Well.. no such employees ever existed! Then the cops started tracing further.. and reached Hemlatha. Here is her modus operandi: Read more

Well.. do you see how the right wingers and those aligned to the Oil and large companies keep talking against the global warming.. in an ostrich-like approach with the hope that things will go away if we dont talk about it. The same section also keeps arguing that the current strange weather that we see (Snow so late in mid-US, no/little snow in Switzerland, floods, droughts in east and west coasts, floods in UK etc) are nothing unusual! Well the semantic magic does not help much! Now here is UN coming out with yet another thought provoking news - the global land surface temperatures between Jan and April this year were HIGHEST EVER!! Well until next year maybe? Read more

Hahaha.. so Pinnochhio's nose had more to do than just show he was lying!! 🙂 And in the Ramayana legend - wonder what happened to Shurpanakha - whose nose was cut off? Nose, scientists now say IS the seat of the differences in the sexual behavior of men and women! Umm.. so is there a difference between people with long noses and short ones? Does "Size" matter? 😉 The enormous difference between male and female sexual behaviour may be explained, in animals at least, by a tiny organ in the nose rather than by any gender difference in brain circuitry. So say investigators in the United States, who admit to being stunned by the finding and the implications for the understanding of sexuality. In a study published on Sunday by the British journal Nature, the team engineered female lab mice so that the rodents lacked a gene called TRPC2, effectively short-circuiting the so-called vomeroasal organ. Read more

Gurgaon is not safe. And IBM has sent out a circular to its employees to be smart and be safe. This is going to be an issue in Delhi and the adjoining areas... where utter poverty and lawlessness lives along with lot of affluence! Its time the Government in India woke up to the issues that plague the normal working of everyone human being! The guidelines come after last Monday’s incident of carjacking at gunpoint from outside the IBM Global Services office at Sector-18. The circular, issued by the internal security division of the company, says that most victims of carjacking, loot and mugging are those returning home "late in the night especially in Gurgaon and adjoining areas". Read more

In any story of differences between the husband and wife, almost always the world has sympathy towards the wife. The women always somehow walk off with sympathy. But its not that they are without their share of sordid behavior! Remember this one where the wife fried her hubby and served him for dinner? Read more

Rather interesting!  I could not have thought that simple dry cells (albeit close to 200 of them) could power a car to even 70 miles an hour!  IT is pretty good for a bunch of students.  It shows that if enough minds are put to this worthy goal of replacing the current crop of cars with those that run on something other than Petroleum products... then it may be possible!  But for now the Oil companies need some profits... so who would even think of this?  The real breakthroughs in this area should really come from the Japanese companies who may not be beholden to the Oil companies of the US as the Detroit trio may be. A group of Japanese students ran a dry cell-powered vehicle at an average speed of 105.95 kilometres (65.83 miles) per hour Saturday to make the Guinness Book of World Records. The car, powered by 192 Matsushita Oxyride AA dry-cell batteries, hit a top speed of 122.00 kph (75.81 mph) during time trials here in the presence of a Japanese agent for Guinness. The average speed is said to be the fastest achieved by a dry cell-powered vehicle. The Guinness adjudicator said he would report the achievement to his head office for formal recognition. The 38-kilogramme (84-pound) vehicle is 3.3 metres (10.8-foot) long, 78 centimetres (2.6-foot) wide and 56 centimetres (1.8-foot) tall and is manufactured by students at Osaka Sangyo University with the help of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.Story link Powered by ScribeFire. Read more
