The act of abandoning one's religion is a sin punishable by God on the Day of Judgement. This is what the Grand Mufti Ali of Egypt says about conversions from Islam. Yet, he is the MOST progressive Muslim cleric around and his statement is a watershed! Why? Because he followed it up with this: If the case in question is one of merely rejecting faith, then there is no worldly punishment So, he is the first to say that there is nothing wrong - at least in the worldly sense - for a Muslim to convert to another religion. To understand the significance of this pronouncement, please read this story of this girl in Malaysia - which is probably one of the most progressive Islamic countries in the world! Read more

From various articles and thought leaders it seemed that the economic future of India is very bright. It might as well be. But the population growth that will propel India in the next 40 years or so will become it own downfall in the years after 2050! That is when the burden of the high population will start affecting the country with more old people roaming around. Here are some stats and figures from the BBC that are extremely insighful of the future of India. In 2000, a minority of the population was over 60, but by 2050 retired people will form a significant part of society. This raises questions about how they will be supported, as fewer than 10% have pensions. More than 65% of people live in rural areas, but migration to the cities is accelerating. Read more

This is by far one of the most defining speeches that I have read from any Indian statesman in a loooong time! It is a pity that Dr. Kalam had to leave with very little respect shown to him by the politicians but tremendous outpouring from the general public! I believe it shows the UTTER disconnect of the politicians from the masses! One day, I hope and pray, it will show in the final treatment that they are meted out too. The worst thing in this whole scenario is that we are headed by arguably the most cerebral leader as PM in the modern history Dr. Manmohan Singh! Yet, he has been a party - by inaction or acquiscence, I dont know and dont care either - to this drama and utter disrespect that was shown to Dr. Kalam. I think - and many know - that India really needed a President like Dr. Kalam, who was an activist of sorts and tough on lousy politicians. That is the reason why the politicians went after him so blatantly! There are times when one has to choose his battles and fight them for the larger good. Going of Kalam and the manner in which he was let go has ironically reduced, even further, my respect for Dr. Singh!! He should have made his views known PUBLICLY!! ****** ****** ***** ****** Friends, I am delighted to address you all, in the country and those living abroad, after working with you and completing five beautiful and eventful years in Rashtrapati Bhavan. I have recently been experimenting with my layout - as you would have seen - if you were a regular visitor. For some reason the font in the body of the content had become really small.. which was not acceptable to me. So, I changed to the blue-marks theme and then another.. but at the back of my mind I only liked Drupalfresh... I think it is a nice theme! So, I reinstalled the theme and just changed the font family to calibri - I think this font style looks rather cool.. it has that feel of being very "printy" or artistic. I just like it.. so you would have to bear with me on this for a while! 🙂 Read more

This well written article further exposes the hypocrisy and the mess that Gandhi was. He was - inherently - a man of conveniences. He chose his battles - where sometimes he would love the Krishna of Mahabharata and sometimes he would become Jesus like! He was schizophrenic at best and thoroughly self-centered and selfish at worst! Read this passage from this article (I have highlighted the main areas for easy reading): WE ARE therefore presented with the seeming anomaly of a Gandhi who, in Britainwhen war broke out in August 1914, instantly contacted the War Office, sworethat he would stand by England in its hour of need, and created the IndianVolunteer Corps, which he might have commanded if he hadn't fallen ill withpleurisy. In 1915, back in India, he made a memorable speech in Madras in whichhe proclaimed, "I discovered that the British empire had certain ideals withwhich I have fallen in love...." In early 1918, as the war in Europe entered itsfinal crisis, he wrote to the Viceroy of India, "I have an idea that if I becomeyour recruiting agent-in-chief, I might rain men upon you," and he proclaimed ina speech in Kheda that the British "love justice; they have shielded men againstoppression." Again, he wrote to the Viceroy, "I would make India offer all herable-bodied sons as a sacrifice to the empire at this critical moment". To some ofhis pacifist friends, who were horrified, Gandhi replied by appealing to the'Bhagavad Gita' and to the endless wars recounted in the Hindu epics, the'Ramayana' and the 'Mahabharata,' adding further to the pacifists' honor bydeclaring that Indians "have always been warlike, and the finest hymn composedby Tulsidas in praise of Rama gives the first place to his ability to strikedown the enemy." Read more

Gandhi's grandson, Rajmohan Gandhi, says that Gandhi would have resisted Osama. Rajmohan Gandhi said that his grandfather would also have tried to organise "something dramatic", perhaps a mass fast, to show how unhappy most Muslims were that their religion was being linked to terrorism. Asked what he would have made of Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden and the Islamist Taliban militia in Afghanistan, Rajmohan said: "He would have stood up to them." "The Muslim and non-Muslim issue was a very important issue in his life in India, and he was killed because many Hindus thought he was friendlier to the Muslims than was necessary," the former Indian parliamentarian said. "So today, he would never agree with the idea that there's something connected between Islam and violence or Islam and terrorism. He would totally oppose that idea." Rajmohan added that his grandfather "might have recommended to the Muslims of the world who were unhappy being hijacked by the terrorists to say how about demonstrating your dissociation with violence through a fast if need be" Read more

Given the worst male-female ratio in Punjab, I have always believed that Punjabis are the worst when it comes to female infanticide. But, it is really an Indian phenomenon! We are, as a nation, murderers of the worst kind!! Here is such a sickening story that it is hard to even imagine the magnitude of evil of these idiots! Read more

I think in my last post on Vande Matram I wasnt able to bring across my thoughts clearly to Mohib.. so let me explain the main argument. There were essentially two main arguments from Mohib against Vande Matram - Individual liberty (which I agree includes religious freedom) and second the context of Vande Matram (Anand Math was anti-Muslim). What I have argued against is the second argument. I think the first argument suffices for Muslims not singing the National Song. If one does not want to sing.. he/she may not! Read more
