What a picture!! This is part of the Daboo Ratnani's Annual calendar that he comes out as a ritual every year which is filled with Indian movie stars! This particular picture, however, is the most awesome in its conception as execution! Just read about it below.. one hint: its not a photoshop job! Since water was the concept for my calendar this year, this was a good time to do it. We had taken a chair too. But this picture looked more dynamic and dangerous, so we preferred it. Hrithik carried about seven outfit changes with him, but we got it right in the first take itself, after a rehearsal. The picture works because he continues to hold his expression till he touches the water. Later, he told me that had never concentrated on his board exams as much as he did for this shot. That's what makes him stand apart -- his hard work even for a photograph. He didn't get hurt. But he was afraid that he might get a water-slap on his face, which would make it go red. But he fell in such a way that his shoulder hit the water first. Everyone's first reaction was that this is Photoshop. But this has no cable work, no special effects. link Read more

Look at this scenario.. and imagine the economic effect of this scenario! Can you imagine if the rising and the growing societies of Asia united just as European societies have? How powerful would that block be! A direct drive from anywhere in India to Vietnam. A train line from Delhi to Hanoi. Countries sharing energy resources -- not just petroleum products, think foreign help during an electricity grid failure. Trade, financial bonding, cooperation in education, information-technology. This is what the Indian PM Dr. Manmohan Singh is in Philippines for! Read more

Here is a guy who took his opportunity and converted a steel platform on two concrete structures into a private "kingdom" and possible future fortune!! So, he is selling the "Kingdom" to live happily in his earlier country (?) .. so what happens to his earlier British citizenship? And will the erstwhile king retain the citizenship of Sealand Principality anymore? What a guy! The tiny Principality of Sealand, which began life as Roughs Tower in 1941, is a 550 sq m steel platform perched on two concrete towers 11 km off the coast of Harwich, eastern England. It is accessible only by helicopter and boat but according to its owners, who want offers of eight digits or over, boasts uninterrupted sea views, guarantees complete privacy and is a tax haven. Read more

Malaysian consortium is offering to build (and then operate and transfer - or BOT) the highways in India... some especially important and significantly useful highways. This is what is lacking in India currently. Malaysia, on the other hand, has nice looking highways in their country with wonderful work having been done in terms of their infrastructure... specially their metro and the airport at KL!! The project, to be executed on a build-operate-transfer basis in a phased manner, envisages two expressways: one linking Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune; the other connecting Delhi and Kolkata. Read more

When the political parties in India try and appease the Muslim clergies and the society folks who campaign for Shariat should really read THIS!! I feel it is a blessing for many Muslims - not those who believe in Shariat like law and want to follow a regressive regime in their lives - that they live in India and not a place like Pakistan! There, in that society, even girls studying to be teachers, can be killed for dishonoring the family code! (see the claims in bold) Naheeda Bibi, 22, was shot three times by her brother on Sunday near her village outside Mansehra city, as she went to catch a bus to return to Rawalpindi where she studied and worked. Read more

In the first week of January, my wife told me that there are lot of people now a days in the park doing exercises. She was wondering what the reason might be.... I know you all could guess the reason. ................. 🙂 Yes, It might be part of New Year Resolution. Every Year I see this trend. In the begriming of the year, people are motivated and slowly the interest wanes due to several reasons. Inability to maintain the interest, work pressure, family pressure, poor time management, etc. But, still it is worth trying. If maintaining the health is not part of your agenda, you should re-consider. Yoga, could be tried anytime even between your work and here is a finding that might be interesting to know about. Read more

Wisdom speaks well, conveying each meaning clearly, And listens for the subtlest sense in others' speech. Men of wisdom befriend the wise and keep that friendship constant, Not opening and closing like the petaled lotus. -Tirukkural 43:424-425 Read more

Bangalore has been causing some envy around the world huh!? In the last elections, even John Kerry promised the Bostonians to make it another "Bangalore"! Well, I doubt he has visited B'lore and so did not know what he was wishing for 😀 But I found B'lore to be at least a decade behind Delhi in infrastructure... and there are many other "B" class cities that I believe have the potential of providing better quality of life... I will write in detail about one of them in the coming days - Indore! Its weather is such where you can do with a normal desert cooler in the summers (in fact it becomes so cool at nights you need to take blankets in summers) and in winters you would be lucky to use your sweater a few times! And the prices of real estate are so enticing that you would want to build a farm house at the cost of a three-bedroom in B'lore!! Read more

Oprah Winfrey has started a school in South Africa which is going to educate many little girls and provide them a future that they never could dream of. Great gesture. What I found intriguing is that it cost her $40 million and counting! That is quite a lot for a school in that part of the world! Anyways she is doing her best there. She recounted - in tonight's Anderson Coopers program - the time when Quincy Jones talked to her when she got the contract for her program - the famous Oprah Winfrey Show and told her: "Your future is so bright that my eyes are burning"! That is what she said to the girls of the school! Read more
