Where is the Indian Rupee going and the economy shaping up? A nice article from Reuters. India's central bank is trying to drain the banking system of excess cash to fight inflationary pressures, but the squeeze on funds has helped send the currency to an 11-month high. Now the market is wondering how much more rupee strength the central bank will tolerate, especially as intervention would involve selling rupees into the market -- thereby adding more of that extra cash it is trying to drain out. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) says that when it intervenes, it does so to calm rupee volatility. Read more

I came across this nice post on Saddam and how Forgiveness is the way forward instead of Vengeance by Arvind Singh. I think its a timely message and an important one too! The question is will it be heeded? ================ Saddam Hussein was like some world leaders who place ambition or an ideal before dignity of human life. The broader question is whether his trial in Iraq was fair and what it truly means for the future of Iraq. Read more

This is incredible! Russia is almost unreachable by foot due to it distance from India and the Himalayas in between. I strongly believe that the kind of rigor that goes into the excavations and archeological work in determining the Christian and Jewish past - even a fraction of it has not gone into that of the Hindu past! In fact if anyone even suggests to work on Hindu past he or she is termed a Hindu Nationalist.. which essentially in "intellectual" circles means someone divorced from science! That is the greatest dis-service done to the Indian past!! An ancient Vishnu idol has been found during excavation in an old village in Russia's Volga region, raising questions about the prevalent view on the origin of ancient Russia. Read more

It took 400 years for the scientists to conclusively prove the murder.. but the new forensic science has done it. Unfortunately, the murderer is having some fun in his after life! 🙂 Italian scientists believe they have uncovered a 400-year-old murder. Historians have long suspected that Francesco de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, and his second wife Bianca Cappello did not die of malaria but were poisoned — probably by Francesco's brother, Cardinal Ferdinando de' Medici, who was vying for the title. Undated photo released Wednesday Jan. 3, 2007 by Prof. Donatella Lippi of the University of Florence, shows materials, viscera (remains of human liver) and two crucifixes, found in the Santa Maria Bonistallo church crypt, in Poggio a Caiano near Florence, central Italy. Scientists in Italy believe they have uncovered a 400-year-old murder. Historians have long suspected that Francesco de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, and his second wife Bianca Cappello did not die of malaria but were poisoned _ probably by Francesco's brother, Cardinal Ferdinando de' Medici, who was vying for the title _ but that theory was never proven. Now, forensic and toxicology experts at the University of Florence believe they have found evidence of murder, according to their study, which was published in the British Medical Journal on Dec. 21. Saddam's hanging video was a bad example of journalism from all quarters! But some of its effects could not have been imagined! Ever since his hanging there have been at least 3 hangings by kids - less than 15 yr old.. in a masochistic bid to see how it feels.. THIS is what irresponsibility in journalism can bring us to.. Those immature minds cannot distinguish between right and wrong and end up taking one wrong turn for everyone to feel the pain! The kids who hung were from Texas, Kolkatta (India), and Multan (Pakistan)! Any link or patterns? NO! Except the tragic choice of the media! Moral: Please be careful on what you let your kids view on TV because things that are "at the edge" can affect those young minds in various ways that you cannot predict.. and it does not matter which culture the incident pertains to - your child could be the next victim!!! Fantastic verse! That which is responsible for the existence of the Sun - in our eyes - is born out of that very Sun! The sight and the seen is one! Amazing! Light illumines the Sun, But the Sun itself creates that light. The glorious Sun and its light are one and the same. -Jnaneshwar (also known as Jnanadeva) Read more

I just read an interesting dialog between two people. One person was worried that she was losing her energy to those who were more successful in life.. and they - like predators - were "living off of her energy". In this case energy that was talk about was more that of the consciousness origin. Another commenter, Scott Masterton, explained it rather well.. and what he says is profound enough to be remembered for most of us. Its how you use the infinite and all encompassing energy. The more you use it to negative ends.. the more it can hurt you. Worth a read: Read more

This is an old Birbal tale .. but got to read it from Jasleen's blog... worth a read.. The Emperor was once in a very thoughtful mood. “Is anything the matter, Sire?” Birbal inquired. “Not at all, Birbal,” Akbar replied. “I was just thinking about something. We Muslims worship Allah. Christians believe in Christ. Buddhists have Buddha. Various other religions have a God of their own. But Hindus worship so many gods. Why is this so?” Birbal replied: “Jahanpanah, God is actually one. Even for Hindus. He is simply referred to by different names.” Read more
