I liked it when Yahoo first came up with the MY Yahoo pages. Then Google bested it and came up with the personalized stuff. Microsoft took up a whole new world when it came up with Live.com - albeit really late in the game! I have moved from my yahoo to google and was contented with google personalized page but felt that it wasnt quite complete. By some chance I happened to touch netvibes.com. So the Europeans are taking to Golf and hiking in the ski resorts and building swimming pools - because it aint snowing enough in their mountains! The Global Warming for them is real! No wonder it is the Europeans who are most eager to enforce the Kyoto agreements for Global Warming! Visitors to the famed French ski resort of Megève this month can stop by the Santa's Village display or see a performance of The Nutcracker on Ice at the local skating rink. But they probably won't be able to ski. Megève has gotten so little snow this season that a planned Dec. 20 World Cup women's slalom event had to be canceled. Read more
This is an interesting article on how it all happened - arguably the best moment for Indian Defence and the worst for Indian politics.. when we gave back 90,000 PoWs and most of Kashmir without extracting anything from Pakistan!! Though no war goes completely according to plan, this one went off reasonably well, and on December 13, we were outside Dhaka. The advance from the north went off well, and though the move of the two brigades was delayed the paradrop took place as planned. By December 13, we had about 3,000 troops outside Dhaka. Meanwhile the American fleet was moving into the Straits of Malacca. Some in Delhi were panicking. The radio signals we were intercepting from Islamabad to the Pakistani forces in the east said "Fight on, you are getting help from yellow (China) from the north, and white (America) from the south." Something is surely wrong with the Indian system. Sometimes I have felt that the Government officials are especially rude and resentful of the NRIs - maybe its envy or jealousy, I am not sure. This case illustrates that amply! These officials should be sacked immediately! There is no denying that this family goofed up BIG TIME in not bringing the visas and PIO card of their kids, but the officials should have been more humane.... a quality that is sadly missing in most officials in India. Mumbai Airport immigration officials deported seven-year-old Viraj Shriwardhankar and his three-and-a-half-year-old brother Vrishabh two hours after they landed in India last week. Read more
