Interesting comment on Knowledge from Rumi: Knowledge has two wings. Conjecture is one wing. Conjecture alone is lacking and cuts short the flight. The one-winged bird continues to struggle, hoping to reach the nest somehow with one wing. And then wisdom shows his shining face. Delivered from conjecture, the bird now spreads both wings (and soars once again). -Rumi, "The Life and Thought of Rumi" Read more

A nice verse from Sanity Sucks - Rahul Pandita's blog... Ghar ki tameer chahe jaisi ho Isme rone ki kucch jagah rakhna Jism mein phelne laga hai shehr Apni tanhaiyan bacha rakhna (No matter how you construct a home Make sure you leave some space for crying The city is spreading in the body Make sure you save your solitude) Read more

Will the career as a pilot be over soon because the planes be unmanned? No I aint talking about the air force or those toy ones.. I mean the commercial ones.. those that you take from JFK or Heathrow! Yeah you get into the plane and some old looking flight attendant comes in and gives you peanuts while the plane is flying on its own - no one in the cockpit for you! The good side? There will be no one to tell you how high you are now .. just as you were about to doze off or when your favorite song was playing on your MP3! Why do these pilots have to tell me what they are upto? Just get me where the ticket says and that will be fine! Read more

It is very rare that you can get on ONE page the economic history of the world - graphically! Here is one such page from a nice blog which referred to another. The message from the study is this: China and India who were the economic leaders of the world until just 200 years ago.. when the Western Europeans through colonization and industrial revolution took over.. are on road for a repeat. Between them they accounted for a little less than 60% of the world's GDP in 1 AD.. it wasn't until 1700 AD that the Western Europe even started a movement towards growth. Read more

A blog from Men's Health on why men cheat their wives. This seems to be interesting it is apparently written by a man. Anyone have the reasons why women cheat? * To Fulfill His Biology: You know the old anthropological tale. A man's main job, besides killing the saber-tooth, is to spread his seed in order to ensure the survival of his genetic legacy. It's a man's biology to want to wander. Does that mean he should, or that he can't help it? Of course not. But it does mean that a man is going to have strong-extremely strong-biological urges to knock on the doors of neighboring huts. I have had this argument/discussion/conversation with dozens of men and women: Are men predestined to cheat? My answer is no, they're not-despite their biology. But often times, they do have to fight it. Especially after a pitcher and two shots of Jack. Read more

In UK this report came out and has raised a lot of eyebrows. As usual, there are camps on either side of the debate. But, to me, it is amazing that we are debating AT ALL! One of the most popular argument used by many is that the calculations of the cost-benefits do not match up .. as they use the benefits accruing and line up all the costs and then discount the resultant by a certain factor - which is usually 3-5%.. well that is because the money tomorrow is worth less than today. But is it just money? Is a tree or a breath of Fresh Air only assessable in money terms? How about the availability of these basic needs to our great grandkids? The question that we need to answer is: Are we worth More than our grandkids? Read more

The nuclear scientists in India are not quite taking everything lying down.. so the Chairman of AEC has issues a warning.. "I have made it clear to them that unless all of India's concerns are taken care of in the final draft, it is difficult to carry out the multi-billion-dollar business with nuclear companies and vendors," Anil Kakodkar, chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission said after a meeting with a five-member US nuclear business delegation led by Under Secretary International Trade Franklin L Lavin. "With the Tarapur experience in mind, I told the business delegation that we do not want the repeat of the same. Since Section 114 which was brought out on the November 16 Bill, it is clear that there is some contradiction between the multi-layer fuel supply and the proposed separation plan," he said. Read more

Not that much of the world is really noticing it.. which they should.. but that crazy crackpot - Hugo Chavez - has won again in Venezuela!
