There is a series of blog posts by Deepak Chopra on RIchard Dawkins book and his contentions of positing God vs Science. I invite you to read those posts (The God Delusion - Part 1, Part 2, Part 3).. however here are a few "scientific" theories/facts that Deepak cites that I found fairly interesting and worth keeping for later contemplation and analyses: About DNA What's wrong with this argument is that if you trace DNA down to its individual atoms, each is more than 99.9999% empty space. If you take an individual electron, it has no fixed position in either time or space. Rather, ghostly vibrations wink in and out of the universe thousands of times per second, and what lies beyond the boundary of the five senses holds enormous mysteries. Read more

Today's Upnishad verse... Those who dwell on and long for sense-pleasure Are born in a world of separateness. But let them realize they are the Self And all separateness will fall away. -Mundaka Upanishad Read more

Interesting Zen teaching: That which has form emerges from that which has no form; that which has no form emerges from that which has form. Therefore the path of supreme spirituality cannot be sought in being and cannot be fathomed in nonbeing; it cannot be lost through movement and cannot be gained through stillness. -Ming-Chiao, "Five Houses of Zen" Read more

This is an interesting story of how Black Entrepreneurs are so conscious of their image and their race when they deal because they assume that there will be discrimination! Yes, there is a perception gap and I feel part of that has to do with the media and partly with the Black community itself! Yes, America has racism.. but those who crib about its racism have not gone to Europe or Australia where racism takes a whole different dimension! US is as good as it gets to tolerance on race as it can possibly come in the Western world. Read more

She is quite a person. From an ordinary Pakistanis standpoint she has been one of the most corrupt PM along with Nawaz Sharif.. and from Indian standpoint she was one of those who for her survival - or intent - gave boost to the many jehadis in the region to the utter chagrin of the Indians! She is articulate.. but honest.. well thats another matter! NEWSWEEK: Why hasn’t Osama Bin Laden been found? Benazir Bhutto: I believe that elements of the [Pakistani] military security apparatus have a lot of sympathy for bin Laden. General Musharraf is relying on the [military] to find bin Laden, and it’s simply not going to happen. What we really need is a change, and I believe that change has to come by going to the civilian option. How would you rate General Musharraf’s performance as a partner to the United States in the Bush administration’s fight against terror? I think General Musharraf took the right decision following the events of 9/11 to stand with the international community to fight terrorism. But I question how effective he has been in eliminating terrorism. There is a lack of implementation of his decisions in many parts of the country, and we have seen in [recent] years how the Taliban have reorganized themselves, and their goal is to take over Afghanistan once again. The religious parties have gained strength within Pakistan and today control of two of our most important provinces that border Afghanistan. Militant groups that were [once] banned—who were attacking New Delhi, Bombay—are re-emerging and hold peace between India and Pakistan hostage. When I look at the rise of the religious parties, the reorganization of the Taliban and the persistence of the militant groups, I worry for Pakistan’s future. Read more

Milton Friedman is dead.  Arguably one of the greatest economist of the last century.. he passes into history! Milton Friedman, the Nobel laureate economist who shaped the philosophies of Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and successive Federal Reserve chairmen, died of heart failure today, his daughter Janet said. He was 94. Friedman's view that inflation results from too much money chasing too few goods inspired a generation of central bankers, beginning with Paul Volcker, who was Fed chairman from 1979 until 1987. Alan Greenspan and Ben S. Bernanke also credit Friedman's work as a blueprint for policy making. Read more

Way to go Prez!! This Indian Prez can talk straight and assert himself.. if only the likes of him were the Prime Ministers! This is what he says about the quotas and subsidies and the "dependency syndrome" Doing some plain speaking at a biennial conference on anti-corruption organised by the CBI, Kalam said, "Wherever there is an independence to perform, we have performed well, whereas wherever we have created a large amount of dependency through complex policies, procedures and subsidies, our performance has been stunted and transparency diminishes." Read more

There are a lot of efforts going around in China and India to bridge a friendship, but make no mistake - the rivalry has anything but increased specially with the economic competition! "There is a prevailing belief in the international community that India will overtake China by 2020. This statement lacks statistical evidence," Secretary-General of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Wang Jinzhen said. "Both are moving towards prosperity. Reform and opening up in China began in 1978 which prompted rapid economic growth. India also launched reform measures in 1991, which followed a policy of liberalisation and globalisation," he said. Read more

Two major Tsunamis have hit the South East Asian region in the last year and a half. The second one of course went by and large unnoticed although it killed a lot of people in Indonesia. Now Japan has gotten another one though really puny in comparison! Five small tsunamis hit northern Japan late Wednesday, estimated at no larger than 16 inches high, Japan's Meteorological Agency said. Read more
