In the US, Public Radio (most popularly National Public Radio) is very popular and, in my view, quite objective. I prefer NPR type coverage to CNN and ABC etc anyday! In fact interestingly enough I have often seen stories that a Paula Zahn or American Morning would claim that they were the first ones to "break" it into the media - but I had heard it a couple of days prior to that on the NPR. NPR's site is also state of the art. Not everyday can you hear the radio and we often miss these great programs. And those who are outside of the US miss out on some excellent content in media. So, if you can - here is a site that provides the RSS links for the PodCasts of those programs. Listen for yourself and marvel at the excellent research and effort that goes into every story! Read more

Everything about India amazes me! We are a country where the censors would not pass the movie if it has any explicit scene and until a few years back even lip to lip kissing was barred. And India is the country which came up with Kamasutra and so many temples that depict sex scenes. Yes, actually there are "Places of Worship" that show everything in explicit detail. Two of them are - Khajuraho and Konark. To know more about these temples and see the pictures, please visit Kamat Potpourri. Now, see this picture below which is an illustration of Animal Sex... way back then!! And we continue to be prudes all the way! Read more

Said Arjuna, "On the one hand you praise renunciation of action and on other you commend the yoga of action. Please tell me clearly which of the two is better." Said the Supreme Lord, "Both the yoga of action and the renunciation of action are both good for liberation. But of the two, the yoga of action is superior "O Mighty armed, He who neither hates nor desires should be known as the real sanyasi (the renouncer of desire driven actions). Such a person, free from the sense of dualities, is happily and completely liberated from all bondage. "The ignorant people say that the yoga of knowledge and the yoga of action are different. But the learned ones do not say so. By achieving mastery in either of the two, one can attain the fruit of both. Read more

Said Lord Supreme, "I preached this imperishable yoga to Vivasvata (Sun) who taught it to Manu and who in turn imparted it to king Ikshvaku. "The saintly kings who received it by tradition knew it, but in the course of time it was lost , O Parantapa "The same yoga of antiquity I shall teach you today. Since you are not only my devotee but also a dear friend of mine, I shall reveal to you this great mystery." Said Arjuna,"You are born in the recent times. Vivasvata was born in the antiquity. How am to believe that you taught it Vivasvata of ancient times ?" Read more

Said Arjuna, " O Janardhana, if you consider that intelligence is better than actions, then why are you asking me to perform this ghastly action? "My mind is confused with your contradictory statements. Please tell me clearly the one path by following which I may gain the real benefit. Said the Lord Supreme, "O Sinless one, I declared two kinds of worship in the world before. One is the path of knowledge pursued by the Sankhyas and the other, the path of action meant for men of action. "One cannot achieve freedom from action by merely abstaining from actions , nor one can attain samadhi simply by renouncing all actions. Read more

Said Sanjaya," Seeing Arjuna thus filled with compassion, his tearful eyes and melancholic mood, Madhusudhana spoke these words." The Supreme Lord said, " From where did these impure thoughts came to you at this critical juncture, thoughts of a disrespectful man, that cause infamy and disqualify one from heavenly life? "O Chastiser of Enemies, do not succumb to cowardliness. It does not suit you. Give up the lowly weakness of your heart and stand up." Arjuna said, " O Madhusudhana, how can I fight against persons like Bhishma and Drona, countering them with arrows, when they are fit for worship? Read more

The latest India Today has an interesting cover story on the book by Pak Prez Musharraf. Here are some excerpts: On AQ Khan and North Korea: "All these explanations sound lame given that Khan frequently flew to North Korea and Iran carrying not just blueprints but actual centrifuges. On his return from North Korea, he was ferrying missiles back to Pakistan. As Sharif pointed out: "Do you think Musharraf, as chief of staff and as the chief executive of the country, had been totally ignorant or what had been happening? Everything was being guarded by his own army. He is the one to be blamed. Khan is being made a scapegoat." Read more

Friends, Jayaram V has provided the English translation of Bhagwad Gita freely on Hinduwebsite.com to be distributed over the net. I think it is a marvellous idea and gesture! I am bringing this content to the readers which I will make available for later reference by stitching the Chapters together in a book and make available under the "Special Series" section. Asked Dhritarashtra, " In the field of righteousness called Kurukshetra, O Sanjaya, doing what are my sons and Pandavas, assembled and excited to fight? Read more
