Suchitra Sen - the beautiful actress from Bengal - is being talked about as the most likely candidate for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (for the Lifetime Achievement to Indian Cinema). Of course, noone can beat Madhubala in my eyes.. but Suchitra Sen was a close second!! She was exotic... specially in the song - Chal ri sajni ab kya soche? Meanwhile, here is how the award to another legend - Sohrab Modi - was treated by his own kids! Sohrab Modi's Dadasaheb Phalke award is on sale!! It is amazing that his kids had no sense of their father's achievement and they simply sold it off when they left the country!! Irfan Pathan at the Army Camp!

Irfan Pathan was at an Indian Army camp for fitness regimen... he seems to have been rejuvenated for the Sri Lanka team ''The good and the bad balance the equation. There is no reason why a lean patch should stay longer than necessary,'' Pathan told this paper. Pathan was among the first to arrive at the NCA and get involved in rigorous practice sessions. He was also the last to leave the camp on August 1, as the Team India took a four-day break till the cricket camp starting Sunday. Having spent equal time with the ball and bat, Pathan says the key now is to get back into rhythm, something that was sorely missing during the ODI series against the West Indies and the lone Test he played there. ''I am looking forward to the Sri Lanka tour, hoping to get back into the rhythm fast,'' he says. Having shaved his head and feeling ''fresh and rejuvenated'' once again, the 21-year-old says, ''There are newer challenges ahead and I will try and make the best use of them.'' New Delhi: How it changed over the years!

This is an interesting article of how New Delhi changed over the years! I have seen the New Delhi of my childhood transform into a baffling mass of concrete and people over the last 37 years! We used to live on Gurudwara Road in Karol Bagh. The main Gurudwara Road now is so jam-packed that you cannot even walk on it.. and the streets criss-crossing it are so full of business and mess that you can't walk even there! But I learnt to play cricket in these streets and often on Mondays when the Karol Bagh bazaar is closed (it still is) - we could play cricket on the main road for some time too!! But those were the days before Maruti can come.. before the commercialization had happened. Soon everything changed! In a little over 5 years the entire area was so difficult to live in!! You couldnt breathe properly because of the smoke from the traffic! It took almost 10 years for the message to reach the South Block and the secretariat!! Thats when the push for the CNG started. What a change it brought!! Then came Metro. Eeshwaran, in my estimation, did a miracle! Knowing Delhi the way it is and its people who are so full of some political connection.. it is but amazing that he could pull such a thing off!! Read more

Antartica gets a Cloud Cover, -87 celcius and Winds of 230 km/hr!

Most of the world is reeling under extreme summer temperatures - and in Antartica the temperature reached a new low! So low that it created a cloud cover that requires temperatures below -80 Celsius! The measured temp was -87 C and winds of upto 230 KM/hr!! Something about the weather is not quite right... as a layman.. I cannot say what though.. but something is amiss! I hope we can tackle the coming catastrophes if any!! Some of the coldest temperatures on Earth have fostered a rare cloud formation over Australia's Mawson station in Antarctica, scientists said on Tuesday. Meteorological officer Renae Baker captured spectacular images of the nacreous clouds, also known as polar stratospheric clouds, on July 25. Read more

The Drupal Upgrade is Complete!

Finally the upgrade to Drupal's version of 4.7 is now done - for all practical purposes. The entire thing was accomplished by my friend Divya at Nimbupani!! This was important for these reasons: 1. I had screwed the heck out of the last version - so it had a lot of broken things backend - which also made it slow! 2. The new plug-ins and themes are coming for 4.7 only. 3. I had to do it sometime.. so why not now... and get it over with! You will see that the site has become a lot faster and now I have two blocks up at the top with some news from other sites... useful addition. Read more
