Recently I have started hitting the gym with a certain regularity where I try and run a mile and also do enough of weight exercise. The only thing is how I cannot always keep my tempo while running. Sometimes I chicked out! I personally believe that I feel better when I walk.. and walk for a long time. It serves me two purposes - One (important but not the most enjoyable) its an exercise and Two, (the most enjoyable) it gives me opportunity to think.. and reflect on my self. For me that is the time of my own way of meditation! Not as it has been explained in most places. A lot of my issues and questions have resolved in those long walks I used to take in the park next to my house in India. Walking in the park was a ritual that was started for me by a close friend, Vishwa. I used to go to meet him and we used to walk and talk for hours on end. It was a greatly rewarding experience. Then he became busy and he came to US. In those years without him, I continued the practice on my own. And felt a lot of calmness. Here are five benefits from Walking by Debbie Rocker on Yahoo. She obviously forgot that it can be done anywhere and also it provides you enough opportunity to think hard and be with yourself!! Read more

Which are the top ranked Indian news sites? Here are some of the main ones according to Alexa ranks! Of the "MNC" Indian News sites are Yahoo and Google Indian sites. Of the "homegrown" ones - the cake goes to Rediff!! Congrats!! The numbers are Alexa ranks. Yahoo India = 1 Google India = 67 Rediff.com = 69 Indiatimes = 258 MSN India = 631 Sulekha = 2288 HindustanTimes.com = 2,839 Samachar.com = 3,757 ExpressIndia = 8,402 TimesofIndia.com = 13,576 I just think that most of the "homegrown" ones are the worst - because they have so many pop-ups and gifs etc.. the Yahoo is definitely the best one! I would rather read my Indian news using the RSS feeds and go to the Indian "homegrown" site ONLY when absolutely required!! Read more

Is Al Qaeda and Taliban dead? Are they different and separate? And how is the Jehadi world shaping up? Here is a good article from Asia Times: In that role, he has been superseded by Taliban leader Mullah Omar, according to investigations and interviews conducted by Asia Times Online in both Afghanistan and Pakistan. Indeed, in the four years since the attacks on the United States of September 11, 2001, al-Qaeda, after years of financial blockades and arrests, has emerged more as a loose (and ideologically divergent) grouping of mujahideen waging open jihad - especially in Iraq and Afghanistan. Read more

There are many people who would like to come to US for a career or living. Its not always easy. One might be a very high official in another country, say like India, but that doesnt mean that one can come here at the same level. So there are two things that ought to be looked at for thinking or planning about careers in the US: 1. What can get you a visa. 2. In which careers can you "port" your position within the US too? Which means that suppose you were a manager in India - in which careers could you start from being a manager in the US too? Believe me, there are enough people who were fairly high up in the Indian corporate system and they have to start afresh! Is that what one wants? If one can reduce ones ego that is fine.. otherwise one has to plan well. Read more

Man, the world is full of losers!! You know those emails that Gmail, Yahoo, and MSN put into the Trash or Bulk folders?? There are people who actually go out to read 'em!! Yeah seriously. At least 5.6% of the world's internet savvy generation is either desperate or just plain full of losers! In any case, it seems that out of the spam, there are folks who still have some success and the hierarchy is like this: 1. Porn 2. Pharmacy Drugs 3. Rolex Watches. Sex sells. That's the conclusion of the chief technology officer of CipherTrust, a company which sells services to companies to monitor incoming e-mail for threats and outgoing e-mail for company policy compliance. Read more

Ok guys.. here is the deal from CNN: - Hezbollah leader ready for "open war" with Israel- Israeli jets destroy Hezbollah headquarters in Beirut- Hezbollah fires missiles into six Israeli towns- An Israeli naval ship damaged by what appeared to be a rocket- Claims that missiles fired on Israel 'made in Iran'- Israeli woman, grandson reported killed by a rocket And we know that there was a tremendous terrorist attack in India - possibly targetting the white-collar professionals in Mumbai. Are all these scenarios related? Also, North Korea is up in arms against the US with missile attacks, and Iran is not easy to make agree on anything by Europe and the US. So why is it that all of these things are coming together? Are the actions of North Korea and Iran mere coincidence? Or is there a correlation? More important, are they "synced" and orchestrated? Is China really honest in N. Korea's case? Is Russia honest in Iran's case? Read more

Read this touching and amazing story at Intentblog! Please do read it - it is amazing in its narrative and the way Mumbai responded in those hours of need and disaster!! =============== A friend, travelling on the same train, witnessed the mumbai blast wrote the experience......... "STUNNED" - Mumbai Mirror."7 BLASTS ROCK MUMBAI"- yahoo headlines.Which editor wrote these lines? Which abysmal had the guts to talk about my mother land, MY CITY being stunned!!! I was there. I was on the train, in the hospital and on the streets and I didn't see Stunned. I saw Stunning…stunning acts of kindness. And nothing rocked Mumbai. No self respecting Mumbaikar can believe that. No. Its not 'blasts rock Mumbai' cause Mumbai rocked, man. She simply ROCKED.Here is my story. For those who came in late…I have started working in a tutoring firm at Andheri. So it's the night shift for me since the students are based in the States. So there I was standing at Dadar station. Waiting for the Borivili fast. She came bang on time. After the normal physical exercise routine (in other cities they call this 'boarding a train'…we Mumbaikars know better:):):)) I got in. The train started. Next stop Bandra…Lots of people got in…some tried to get out:). After the usual round of expletives, shouting and 'chod do na yaar…are maramari mat karo'(forget about it, man…don't fight guys) the train started. Read more

The world has not seen very many people like Warren Buffett. A guy who starts from a modest and simple life and grows on to such great heights just based on his "passion". Of course, his donation has made history and is going to remain the single most important act of self-lessness. Here is a nice video of his indepth interview with Charlie Rose. I like the way he discusses his investment philosophy. There was one thing he said about his lesson from Ben Graham - his mentor - that really was very profound. "You should use the stock market and not take instructions from it" Which essentially means that the stock price should not dictate your assessment of how your stock investments are doing. Rather the stock prices should give you cues on when to buy. Performance of a company has very little, if anything, to do with its stock price!! I think most of us are not that diligent!! Read more
