Here is a write up on the Kannada weddings: Pre-wedding Rituals Naandi Kannada Wedding Naandi is performed separately at bride as well as groom's house. This is to ensure that the marriage takes place despite any circumstances. Kaashi Yatre A very old ritual Kashi Yatre, here the groom pretends to be very angry as nobody is searching for a bride for him. He announces Brahmacharya. This is when his maternal uncle convinces him and puts forth him the girl that he has chosen for him or would offer his daughter's hand for marriage. Dev Karya Traditionally this ritual was performed on the day of arrival of the groom's family to the village. All the goods that were to be exchanged or used in the marriage were placed in front of Lord Ganesha to seek blessings from the Lord. On the same day haldi is applied to the bride as well as the groom in their respective houses. Another ritual is where the Uddin Murth a type of grain is ground. Here is some nice pointers by Rajesh Setty on how to read a non-fiction book to get the best out of it... I think he makes a lot of sense on this one.. he even has a Squidoo lens where he lists some books that can help... for most part I agree with his list. 1. Use the book while you read it:I learnt this technique from my friend and mentor Tim Sanders. When you read the book, highlight important points, make your own notes and cross-reference other ideas related to the topic you are reading and so on.Of course, you can do this only when you own the book. 2. Read the book to teach: Read more

Is this the beginning of an end? As if the outsourcing and terrorism wasn't enough.. and now what we get is this....health spending will be a major drain by 2020 for the US economy! By 2020, more than $1 out of every $5 spent in America will go toward health care. America may be headed for an era in which it might spend more on health care than it does on manufacturing. That could lead to more pressure to send jobs overseas, more employers would stop offering health insurance and more people would be uninsured. Read more

Here is an excerpt from a book on Helen by Jerry Pinto titles "Helen: The Life and Times of an H Bomb". She was indeed a special actress to have come to the Indian screen... and I cannot imagine the history of Indian Cinema without her! She was THE most excellent dancer that one saw growing up. It wasn't quite lust that Helen aroused, although her dance numbers were chiefly about the pleasure men derive from the female form in motion. Helen was the desire that you need not be embarrassed about feeling. You could forgive yourself that feeling because there was something about her that transcended the tawdry clothes, the bizarre make-up, the invasive camera angles, the inane lyrics and the repetitive choreography and suggestive movements. These days she is often spoken of as "the original item girl". Read more

As an executive, you may have to move your residence more often.. here are some suggestions,,, Note to top executives: Moving your family shouldn't be just another entry on your list of things to do. A successful move must involve the family at every level, a basic point many high-level managers overlook when moving to a new city. "Executives are used to making major decisions," says Jacqui Hauser, vice president for consulting services at Cendant Mobility, soon to be known as Cartus, in Danbury, Conn. "Relocation is a family event, and executives shouldn't focus just on the tactical. Children should be involved at age-appropriate levels." Read more
