Google Finance was launched today. Its a good attempt and brings a lot of stuff in from various places which is good.. but I somehow still think Yahoo Finance is better. Here are the positives of Google Finance: 1. Simple looking 2. Brings in blog entries - which is amateur and independent reviews of the stocks 3. You just need to put in names or tickers - anything will do - to bring up information on it! And if it is a foreign company - say one listed on Bombay Stock Exchange or Seoul Stock Exchange - it will still bring up enough information for you to research .. although the financials or graph will be missing (which no one else provides too anyways!) Read more

I am appalled and saddened by the British Police.. first their cluelessness after the London Bombings where the guys simply escaped and if it wasnt for the crass stupidity of those guys they would not have been caught.. and now this! From the British rule time in India - most Indians have a good degree of respect for the professionalism of the British Police and that is what saddens me.... it seems to be vanishing! British detectives said on Monday they had launched an inquiry into claims police staff had been selling close-up pictures of a huge group of naked people who took part in a photo shoot for a U.S. artist. Read more

This is a very good article on lessons learnt in freelancing! I think these are useful insights that this blogger brings to all of us... worth a read! 1. Err on the side of abundant contact. If choosing among infrequent contact vs. abundant contact with clients, always offer more than less. Currently only 2 of my clients reside in Utah. The rest are scattered abroad. That typically means a remote working environment, in which email, IM, and phone replace traditional face-to-face or in-house interaction. Do whatever each project requires to ensure clients feel cared for and attended to. I’ve even held daily phone calls with clients over an extended period of time when it meant keeping a project on task. Read more

Here is a new Social Networking site for soccer enthusiasts! The idea of social networking is gaining strength now in niche areas and not just a general MySpace type of an open network!! Here is another great article on what leads to lost business value for an online business! # An e-commerce site lost millions of dollars because overly aggressive homepage promotions made users distrust the price of any product that was not on sale. This is a classic example of the importance of trust-enhancing design in e-commerce. # Rather than offering a unified intranet portal, one big company's intranet had inconsistent design and used different systems to manage different areas. As employees moved around the intranet, the navigation options and structural appearance changed. Parts of the intranet looked outdated compared to newer sections, which made users doubt the accuracy of the older pages' information. Again, this is a credibility problem -- trust is not just an e-commerce issue. Read more
