This young singer is truly versatile as she can sing not just in one Indian language but several! If I was the PM of India - in order to further the friendship between the two countries, I would promote this girl! Hou Xin Jie, a popular crooner of Indian songs in China, has set out on a visit to the country she adores, seeking an audience with legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar and to bring newer Indian melodies to her listeners back home. “I am very keen to meet Lataji. | It is my dream,” 24-year-old Hou said, hoping that she could meet her idol and inspiration during her visit to India. “This would be my first visit to the country though I became acquainted with its culture at the age of five,” she said. During the recent China visit of Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf, Hou entertained him and guests with Urdu songs. Read more

Here is another Google news that it "absent-mindedly" let slip out! It is going to simply mirror your desktop and provide free online storage! Google is preparing to offer online storage to web users, creating a mirror image of data stored on consumer hard drives, according to company documents that were mistakenly released on the web. The existence of the previously rumoured GDrive online storage service surfaced after a blogger discovered apparent notes in a slide presentation by Google executives published on Google’s site after its analysts presentation day last Thursday. Read more

Man, when he first learned to think.. wondered about the origin of it all. he thought and thought.. and thought... but there was no answer. ... he soon began to do mathematics... and then he assigned an unknown variable to the "uncreated creator" and known constants to all else. ... that unknown variable - the 'question' - still remains. We just give it different names and adjectives and claim gleefully that we have solved the "equation". .... as if! Read more

In the aftermath of the recent Varanasi bomb blasts - I had an email exchange with a guy - who prides his "secular" values and gets livid at the "Hindu fascists" at the slightest nudge. This was his take on the reason (s) for the bomb blast: Why did you presume I meant that if there is a bomb blast in a temple it is the Muslims who are aggreived? Also anytime something happens in India, it has to be a foreign hand? Who wants us to think like this? So far the STF is talking of Indians who have been recruited by LeT . What caused these people to be bought? and my reply Read more

The world is changing and it is becoming more anti-Islam - part of it has to do with racial stereotypes but a large part of it has to do with inability of the intellectuals amongst the "believers" to properly scrutinize and "question" some of their own beliefs! Are there any parts of Quran that may not be in tune with a peaceful world? To give a blanket statement that everything about Quran is steeped in peace is ostrich-like for the world "outside" does NOT believe in it. There is NO book or Prophet or Saint whom I have read/heard who/which was consistent and perfect at every point (including Bhagwad Gita - which in my personal opinion is the most profound book I have read!). So it is inconceivable for me that either Bible or Quran is perfect in all respects. They are NOT and the sooner everyone realizes this the better it is for the mankind. In any case it is important that the Muslim intellectuals start a reformation and take over the religion landscape as opposed to being herded by the extremists. Here is an article based on recent polls in the US on the perceptions on Islam and Muslims. Read more
