This is a good article on building brand you.. an important endeavour for today's professionals! Roffer believes that the right personal branding will secure people a future rich in fulfillment and success -- even as victims of downsizing. Fast Company sat down with her to discuss her latest book, Make a Name for Yourself, and to learn how to create a personal brand after a layoff. Lose the Guilt Above all, promote your authentic self -- your specialized set of talents and the vital strengths that you bring to the table, inside and outside of a job. Roffer says, "Constructing your brand based on these attributes shows that you offer real value, regardless of the jobs that you've held or lost. You must disassociate with a company's failure. Too many people wrap up their ego in their job title." Read more

Wanna pay off your credit card bills? DONT!! You may be tagged as a terrorist by the State Department!! Here is a hair-raising story of just normal good ole fashioned Texan couple who thought they were doing the right thing by paying off the credit card bill.. and the red alert went off... for terrorists!! Heck how could someone be paying $6566 for their debt? Must be terrorists! And to think of that Mohd Atta was wired in $100k by the Pakistan Intelligence Chief before 9-11... and he went flying all the way to the WTT is mind-boggling!! Walter Soehnge is a retired Texas schoolteacher who traveled north with his wife, Deana, saw summer change to fall in Rhode Island and decided this was a place to stay for a while. Read more

There is a flurry of activity in the Indian Foreign Office! State visit of Prez Bush.. and Aussie PM Howard. India has officially asked the Federal Government to consider lifting its export ban on uranium, and while that request has not been agreed to, India has not been flatly refused either. The move has been interpreted on the Indian side as suggesting that the door for exports may be open, somewhere down the track. Facing questions about his uranium policy on his trip to India, the Prime Minister John Howard again restated that current Australian policy dictates that sales only go to countries that sign up to the Non-Proliferation Treaty. link Read more

I have heard the telecom majors want to milk their networks by monitoring the traffic within their "pipes".. so they have a whole lot of folks to contend with.. and the Government itself may turn out to be a major competition! It is intriguing that the North America - the bastion of Capitalism - we are seeing the growth of Govt-managed Internet Wi-fi networks!! Economies are turning on their heads through Internet .... in more ways than one!! Toronto Hydro Corp. will announce Tuesday that it plans to turn Canada's largest city into one giant wireless hotspot, directly challenging the country's major mobile phone carriers for a chunk of the $8 billion a year wireless market. Read more

Everyone who is on the internet has his/her favorites! They pretty much go to certain sites every day ... and the research says that on an average people go to about 6 sites. Which are YOUR six sites? Mine are: 1. - Gmail 2. - Google.com (personalised) 3. - Rediff or Samachar 4. - Drishtikone.com (this one) 5. - Intentblog.com 6. - SAPprofessionals.org (another of my site) I used to frequent the Indian news sites a lot - like hindustantimes.com and timesofindia.com - but these and even rediff have become such a pain in the backside with their pop-ups that I have stopped going there .. I just take a peek at rediff once a day and that is just about it!! I cannot stand those pop-ups. Indian techies may be awesome at crunching code but when it comes to bringing folks to their sites - they are TERRIBLE!! There was a time when I LOVED sulekha.com .... and then they just changed their design.. and messed up the gluing factors!! Same with Rediff. What kind of nuts are they!!?? Read more

Ok, so we have done all the deals for the planes. We have the passengers ready in their homes. All we dont have are: 1. the airports to land those planes on, and 2. Pilots to fly those planes Hows that for a great National Infrastructural Strategy? I have been reading a lot about the lack of skilled manpower in India - a country that is arguably THE world's provider of human resources! I have not heard similar complaints from China as yet. Is it because the Chinese enterprises are mainly manufacturing and do NOT require skilled folks or is it because they are doing a better job than us in HR management? Read more
