Last night I watched a rather different kind of Bollywood movie "Iqbal". The reason I brought the cassette was because the grocery store owner - a Gujju and a self-proclaimed class-mate of Rakhi Sawant (yeah that sexy siren) - had written the words "Good Movie"! This was the first time in last two years that I have seen any movie in his store get SUCH a proclamation. That does it, I said! It was a nice but predictably familiar plot of a movie.. kind of like one of those popular themes where an underdog village kid with no real means .. against ALL odds and a little help from un assuming quarters, makes it BIG! Only with two differences - this kid was deaf and dumb and he was Muslim. Why have I mentioned the latter? Interesting point! Even I did not realize it until late! Read more
Here is a hillarious version of an interview with Inzimam-ul-Haq, the Pakistani Cricket captain. It aint real, of course.. but it seems Inzi holds the place for jokes that Kapil used to have when it comes to twisting languages... ENJOY! 🙂 And, just for the background, this is after one of the recent Indo-Pak ODI (One Day Internationals) - and Rameez is one of popular TV commentators from Pakistan! Rameez: So Inzy, disappointed with your performance today? Inzy: Bismilla-e-rehman-e-rahim. Thank you allah.ya the indian batsman is play very good today. we is try very hard but is not win the game. My earlier post on differences between men and women. Men and Women have often been equated to Shiv and Parvati (Shakti). In most mythology, Shiv, the Hindu deity, in his virile spendour represents the quintessential wild male, while Shakti represents the smooth and gentle woman. However, more importantly, in Vedanta's deep recesses they represent the two BASIC ingredients of this creation - Matter and Energy. Shiv is Matter and Shakti is Energy. Every matter is but a manifestation of that one matter, and all energy is also a manifestation of that one Unified Energy. Read more
Yet another power company from Houston, TX seems to have caught a fancy for India... Texas Power Generation LLC is going to invest $10 billion in next 10 years in India. They have started with Chattisgarh and will move to other states like Andhra pradesh etc. Hopefully this foray will be better than Enron's deal! I have a belief that once the market in India becomes lucrative as a consumer place the people who want to set up infrastructure will jump in too! Over a decade after United States energy trader Enron Corp first entered India for Dabhol power plant, another Houston-based company Texas Power Generation LLC on Friday announced ambitious plans to invest up to $10 billion in next ten years for setting up power plants in the country. There is a fair bit of controversy on the differences between genders. Do men and women think and behave differently? A year ago, the president of Harvard University, Lawrence H. Summers, sparked an uproar at an academic conference when he said that innate differences between men and women might be one reason fewer women succeed in science and math careers. Summers also questioned how much of a role discrimination plays in the dearth of female professors in science and engineering at elite universities. Science is a broad area. And it includes not only Physics and Chemistry but also Biology. Now an British scientist Peter Lawrence - in his paper titled "Men, Women, and Ghosts in Science" has questioned why, when 60 per cent of biology students are female (which kind of counters Summers assertion of lack of scientific zeal amongst women), only 10 per go on to become professors. That is indeed an important question. Read more
