I just read the article "Unfinshed Agenda" in India Today and saw these stats. They are an eye-opener! I thought these need to be brought in front of everyone to put things in perspective! To change all this is a gargantuan task.. and it requires consensus which is sadly missing!! - Of the 126 airports (domestic and international) only 9 are profitable and 45 airports where NO flights land! - 18 of the 30 State Electrivity Boards lose money. - SEBs lose Rs 30,000 crores in THEFT annually (roughly USD 6.8 BILLION) - Peak Power Shortage = 11,500 MW Read more

Nice message I got from a friend in one of those emails that go out everywhere 🙂 worth a read... When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 Hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar . . . and the coffee. A professor stood before his Philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The p ebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. Read more

Tata America International Corporation (TAIC), a subsidiary of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has been slapped a class action suit by a current employee, Gopi Vedachalam, alleging that the company was ‘‘enriching itself’’ by requiring workers to hand over their Federal and State tax refunds to the company. Read more

This is absolutely nonsensical!! Life of a soldier is FAR more important than ANY argument! And the Government is planning on the implementation of Muslim census! Is this the end of the Indian National Security?? An Indian sailor was allegedly beaten to death by his colleagues on board a Norwegian oil tanker in the international waters off the coast of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates following an argument over the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad in some European newspapers. A fight ensued among the seamen after an argument over the issue, causing the death of one sailor, a media report said. Read more

There have been many discussions and questions on reservations (or Affirmative Action as it is called in the US). Many have said and there are said to be innumerable research papers which claim that it works. I cannot and will not go into that kind of nonsense. For statistics is just another kind of lie. What I am looking at is the ground reality - the lot of African Americans in the US and Lower Castes in India. Have their situation really improved? Have the "perceptions" really changed regarding them? Read more

Few of interesting news on Internet: Mock Internet Attacks The US government has concluded its "Cyber Storm" wargame, its biggest-ever exercise to test how it would respond to devastating attacks over the Internet from anti-globalization activists, underground hackers and bloggers. Participants confirmed parts of the worldwide simulation challenged government officials and industry executives to respond to deliberate misinformation campaigns and activist calls by Internet bloggers, online diarists whose "Web logs" include political rantings and musings about current events. The Internet survived, even against fictional abuses against the world's computers. Experts depicted hackers who shut down electricity in 10 states, failures in vital systems for online banking and retail sales, infected discs mistakenly distributed by commercial software companies and critical flaws discovered in core Internet technology. link Read more
