Is this racial profiling in the Indian Army? Whatever the trigger for this - it is rather instructive that it is being attempted NOT by the usual villains - the BJP - but the "oh-so-holy" pseudo-secular party - Congress .. with the support of the ever Hypocrite Left parties!! Charging a section of the opposition with deliberately raising the issue, Congress on Monday said the reported survey of Muslims in the armed forces was not army specific but a general fact finding exercise. Read more

Once there were two brothers - Mr. Jay and Mr Kay. Jay was the elder and Kay the younger. Since Jay was the elder, he had assumed most responsibilities - and even though through his childhood, he would get the most rebuke and spanking, he still would keep working - demostrating and talking back sometimes. However, being the elder of the two, he would know that he had to show the way. Kay was unpredictable. A person of VERY strong choices! He only liked milk at a certain temperature - and if it wasn't provided at that temperature, it was not unusual for the brat in him to pull the entire milk pitcher - with milk meant for others in the household - down and spoil the entire milk! The tantrums of Kay kept on getting bolder.. and most were aimed at Jay for he got the most attention being the elder. The more pranks Kay would play on Jay, the more angrier Jay would become and in his rage would vow to hurt him, but his Mom would stop him with the argument that Kay was after all his "baby brother"! As if the torn books and swollen toe would be any lesser so because it was the inflicted by Kay and not Shay!! If only the bones could see the person's age! Read more

Although this is just a case of a couple of hundred thousand patients coming to India - but this trickle can become a deluge if the current state of health benefits and state of this sector continues in the US and West! Dr Ehandapany Raghavan, vice president of Siemens Medical, said sheer necessity would force the West to subcontract its care to India. "General Motors spends $6 billion a year on health care, it's killing the company," he said. "These firms are going to have to turn to India because but there's no other choice," he told the newspaper. US hospitals already use Indian doctors for night emergencies, sending data from X-rays and scans electronically for instant analysis. 63-year-old Dan Robertson found his way to Jaslok Hospital from Arizona after researching hip ailments on the Internet. Read more

Mrs. Gonzalez comes to visit her son Jorge for dinner. Jorge lives with a female roommate, Maria. During the course of the meal, Mama can't help but notice how pretty Jorge's roommate is. She had long been suspicious of the relationship between the two, and this made her more curious. Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between her son, Jorge and his roommate than meets the eye. Reading his Mom's thoughts, Jorge volunteered, "I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you, Mama, Maria and I are just roommates." Read more

Its time for "Green" to become chic! And just give lure of money to Indian entrepreneurs - and they will create the most impossible looking stuff in India. Here is one such example - perhaps the first "clean development project" as per UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. And they get to trade certified emission reductions - a source of revenue too! Read more

Here is the deal: - Price of oil is $60/barrel - With India and China growing, Oil can only become more expensive! - Bush is pushing for democracy as a single-minded agenda. Democracy is not merely a mantra. It is not just elections. Elections are the first step. Sustaining the "culture of choice" is far more important. Not just once. But year after year, decade after decade, and century after century! That kind of longevity in "culture of choice" requires Political Institutions. The three main ones - Executive, Judiciary and Legislative are the critical ones. More critical than their presence are the checks and balances that each has on the other! Circle of checks should be such that anyone to go wayward may not be a possibility. Read more

Wasnt that a catchy title?? Thats bloggy PR for you for something that is so technical I can't even begin to comprehend!! But. this is a wonderful news anyhow - although I can't make much of what the fuss is here about 🙂 There are the facts: Indian scientists at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) have found answer to a puzzle that eluded Einstein. Hmm .. thats impressive. What have they done? Here is a clue from a Rediff report: They have found and proposed an experimental test for the quantum theory of gravity, the first step to unify the forces of nature that rule the universe on a large scale and the quantum forces that govern the atomic world. Read more

Milky way is our Galaxy of stars which includes the Sun. Some folks can actually see the white (milky remember!) arc above at night. I cannot. I have always lived in big cities! Somehow the lights on the ground wipe out the milky brilliance of our Galaxy. Since it is Milky White and circular shaped it almost looks like a halo. Well, thats how we would have wanted our abode to be anyways. We earthlings have created the Creator and he HAS A HALO! So, we get it too. Some call it the "Halo Effect"! Now, our Halo-fied Galaxy has been upto some mischief lately. It has been stealing some stars from this decidedly "loser" globular cluster called Messier 12 within the constellation Ophiuchus! Read more
