I just got it from Nandi, my brother-in-law about the dynamics of gossips and a story about Socrates! In ancient Greece (469 - 399 BC), Socrates was widely lauded for his wisdom. One day the great philosopher came upon an acquaintance who ran up to him excitedly and said, "Socrates, do you know what I just heard about one of your students?" Wait a moment," Socrates replied. "Before you tell me I'd like you to pass a little test.It's called the Triple Filter Test." "Triple filter?" "That's right," Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my student let's take a moment to filter what you're going to say. The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?" Four guys, a Manager and the Pie

There were four guys living in a house in four different rooms: A, B, C, and D. There was one manager of the house, called X. He was basically responsible for keeping everything in order and had the mandate of managing the activities of the house.These five guys - A, B, C, D, and the Manager X - were peculiar in their diet - they could only eat Apple Pies.. nothing else!! After all, they lived in Pie-pura - where everyone could only eat Pie!However, the situation was such that of the four only C had gotten the training and the skill to make an Apple pie. Controversy on Hinduism in California Text Books

There is a controversy on the issue of controversy of changes to California sixth graders books with respect to Hinduism. There are many blogs which are commenting on it so I thought I might as well take it up too! There are two that I have read and commented on - Amardeep Singh and Intentblog.But I will weigh in this controversy with a view to show the behavior of the various 'actors" in the entire drama - specially with respect to the Aryan Invasion Theory (AIT)Aryan Invasion Theory was put forward by Fredrich Max Muller - an indologist of dubious intentions. And this is what BBC says about this Aryan Invasion theory:The theory was not just wrong, it included unacceptably racist ideas:- it suggested that Indian culture was not a culture in its own right, but a synthesis of elements from other cultures- it implied that Hinduism was not an authentically Indian religion but the result of cultural imperialism- it suggested that Indian culture was static, and only changed under outside influences Read more

Cingular Wireless Patents Emoticons!

On the heels of the recent RIMM/Blackberry fiasco going on.. here is another patent infringment waiting to happen!!The USA based mobile operator, Cingular Wireless has managed to get a patent on the concept of using emoticon on mobile phones. While the aim of the patent is to enable the displaying of MSN style graphics on handsets, they also managed to patent the delivery of text based emoticon - so presumably sending 🙂 via an SMS - if selected via a dedicated or softkey, would be a breach of the patent in future.
