This is an article from the Economist: In the coming year India will enjoy greater international prestige than at any time since independence in 1947. With an economy that could grow at more than 7% for the fourth year in succession, that prestige is based in part on sheer clout. Over the next half-century India will emerge as one of the world’s biggest economies and great powers This is what Vijay Sappani is discussing in his blog on Intentblog.com: Read more

This is amazing.. Yahoo already has two online ways to bookmark - Yahoo Bookmarks and MyWeb. .. and now this Del.icio.us! Surely they are having a go at all the levels and people in social bookmarking! The best will be to integrate all of them!! Group-think is a powerful tool on the Internet. Get enough people independently deciding about what's important and what's not important, and a consensus suddenly emerges. Social bookmarking and social content sites rely on the opinions of users to determine what Web sites are most worth reading. Del.icio.us allows users to "tag" their favorite Web content and share those tags with others. And Del.icio.us is not alone; a host of other social-networking sites are stepping up to take on the challenge. Read more

Shahid Burki is one Pakistani commentator that I have liked a lot.. here is one of his Opinion pieces which tries to bring out differences between India and Pakistan. WHILE I was in India last month I came across an American friend who had also travelled to Delhi to pursue some interest in development economics. This was his first visit to the country and he was initially very impressed with what he saw. He had also read Thomas Friedman’s book from which I quoted in the column last week. “India is indeed an economic superpower; one that will change the structure of the global economy”, he said to me, fully agreeing with Friedman’s thesis. Read more

So, India is now finally flexing its muscle on helping other developing nations battle the coming pandemic! Way to go! Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has offered India's expertise in making generic drugs to Southeast Asian nations to help deal with the menace of bird flu. Singh told leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations at a summit on Tuesday that India can support their efforts to make a generic version of Tamiflu drug, the only known medical shield against the disease, said Rajiv Sikri, a top diplomat aiding Singh. ``He offered the efforts to support a generic version of anti-viral drugs and a regional network of anti-viral drugs stockpiling,'' Sikri said. Read more
