Political competition for business hots up.. and the thick-skull idiots like Deve Gowda will lose out or be thrown out of the Government.. very soon.. these businesses will start deciding who enters our polity.. such that the country's economic future doesn't get derailed! I think thats the only way left to go now!! What is poison for Deve Gowda may prove to be sweetener for Vilasrao Deshmukh. Even as the Congress-led government in Karnataka, under pressure from the former Prime Minister, seems intent on squeezing Infosys, two other Congress-ruled states — Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh — are moving to cash in. Read more

This is an interesting series of pictures and commentary on the journey of Mohd. Akram - a Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist ... read it! Meet Mohammed Akram, once a fighter with the militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen. He came to Pakistan-administered Kashmir in 1995 as a fiery 21-year-old to fight Indian rule in Kashmir. But life was not what he had expected. "People from across the Line of Control were not really trusted." He was tempted to quit many times but there were no jobs. The Hizb would pay them $55 a month. Read more

While this is a laudable effort.. it takes out the need for the banks to innovate! I remember listening to CK Prahlad once... and he quoted a case study with Citibank in India where they were challenged to help the rural masses create bank accounts with the ATM facilities having a balance of just Rs 1000 ($25)!! And still make it profitable! They found out a way to link the ATM bank branches thru satellite dishes... and make it work! And yes.. the profit margin was well over 20%! The Reserve Bank of India has instructed banks to introduce zero-balance account to enable the masses to avail banking facilities. Read more

Drucker was a pioneer in the management field.. his efforts made something that was hitherto an Art form into a sort of science... such that it could be taught in the management schools! Peter F Drucker, known as the 'father of modern management', died at his home in Claremont, California on Friday. Drucker was considered a visionary for making management a field of study and his recognition that dedicated employees are key to the success of any organisation, a concept that he began proposing during the 1950's. His work spanning over seven decades has helped many corporations and educational institutions across the world. A journalist, teacher and business consultant, Drucker has authored more than 35 books. According to him, "Management deals with people, their values, their growth and development, social structure, the community and even with spiritual concerns." His motivational techniques were adopted by some of the biggest companies in the United States, including Intel Corporation and General Motors. In 2002, Drucker was awarded a 'Presidential Medal of Freedom'. He is also known as the proponent of the 'management theory' and concepts of privatisation, and decentralisation. Born in Vienna in 1909, Drucker studied law in Germany before moving to London, and later to the United States. In 1945, his book, "Concept of the Corporation," based on a two-year study of General Motors, became an instant bestseller. Business Week magazine hailed him as "The most enduring management thinker of our time," Drucker is survived by his wife, Doris, four children and six grandchildren. ... read more More blogs about peter drucker. Read more

The first time I read the first paragraph I thought it was a typo! It should have been attributed to a medieval Islamic religion fundamentalist! But boy.. has this America of today CHANGED!!! Presumably Jesus of today has become strikingly belligerent and egotistic! I have a belief ... that you become very similar to the enemy you fight if you are an extremist of thought, passionate and a close-minded ideologue! Today's US governing establishment is looking and speaking more and more like the Taliban government that they started out to fight against! They woould not rest till they too have blown the last statue of Buddha out into oblivion.... along with their future! Read more

This is a critique of the book "Was Hinduism invented?" by Brian Pennington by Aruni Mukherjee (University of Warwick, England). I find the obsession of the Western thinkers and literalists with "Religion" thoroughly" debilitating for their OWN cause. They have ended up commoditizing God! I have never believed that there was any "religion" called Hinduism.. nor should there be one! The core of what is called "Hinduism" was evolved over many years by efforts of many learned .. .and most importantly HONEST men! They did not have to hide behind the shield of structure to stay in currency! They simply followed their word! It is VERY interesting to me that in all those THOUSANDS of years there was no ONE major branch of the tree which ultimately comprised "Hinduism" which called itself as "different" .. and within the last 800 years we have at least half a dozen.. each claiming a difference and a structure! And to me .. all those "prophets", Gurus, Masters.. ended up creating mess in the society and their followers were left no better than before! Read more

Wonder who these cricketer and actress are? It is interesting how this entire ring of popularity and mafia is linked together. To dry up the latter ... we need to tackle and if possible regulate the pay backs to the first!! With the arrest of underworld don Abu Salem, evidence could mount against a former Indian cricketer and a film actress, which surfaced during the investigations into the funding of the expenses of Salem in Portugal. Highly placed investigation sources said the bank transactions of Salem were monitored closely and names of the former cricketer and the actress, who had been allegedly laundering money for Salem and taking care of his expenses in that country. Read more

This is Vivekananda on Raja Yoga... the interesting thing it brings about is the linkage of motion and gravitation. The latest scientific thought on Gravitation also connects it to Intertia (quantum cousin of Newton's inertia though). I have not fully understood that piece but I will bring it for you... in a post soon enough!! =========== According to the philosophers of India, the whole Universe is composed of two materials, one of which is Akasha. It is the omnipresent, all-penetrating existence. Everything that has form, everythig that is the result of combination, is evolved out of this Akasha. It is the Akasha that becomes the air, that becomes the liquids, that becomes the solids; it is the Aksha that becomes the sun, the earth, the moon, the stars, the comets; it is the Akasha that becomes the human body, the animal body, the plants, every form that we see, eevrything that can be sensed, everything that exists. It cannot be perceived; it is so subtle that it is beyond all ordinary perception; it can only be seen when it has become gross, has taken form. At the end of the cycle the solids, the liquids, and the gases all melt into Akasha again, and the next creation similarly proceeds out of this Akasha. Read more
